Today i woke up at 5.30am to have my light breakfast as wasnt aloud to eat for 6 hours before TOE, but accidently fell back to sleep so didnt have a drink or anything. Also was worried as was thinking how am i going to take morning sotolol as its now 8.30 and not aloud to eat or drink. Rung them up and asked if i could take it, they said it was fine but just take it with small sip of water, so that pleased me but really just wanted to carry on drinking the water as my mouth was so dry. Anyway 1pm came an arrived at a day unit to have my TOE, they first took my blood pressure and had my finger in the oximeter, two attemps on left arm after it snapped, then finally got it into my right arm.soon after the doc came round said just keep swallowing like u do a boiled sweet, ok i said just the once? How do you know when to swallow??lol.was bit nervous by now and signed my life away. After that i was taken to a room where they do the TOE procedure they hooked me up to an ecg machine sprayed my throat with bananna flavour spray and gave me oxygen and a mouthguard to bite on, next thing i know i feel the ga work a little but not that much, and the the camera goes in, i really did gag a lot i admit it wasnt very nice but didnt last long. Before i knew it, they had finished n i was back on ward. Had a drink n sandwich an hour after then even went down on my own for a vape, i got onto a ward finally with a tv to watch, soi could pass some time, finally at 4.30 where im awaiting my ablation im told that it will be done early in the morning??? Im sure it cant be that bad i hope????will let you all know how i get on after...

Isn't the banana stuff AWFUL? I'm thinking the worst bit is most probably behind you now.

All the best - have a good night!

I didn't mind the banana stuff. I know, there's always one and normally it!

Actually Steve I think the TOE is probably the worst bit.

Worry not...you are almost there now & it will soon be over ( the procedure I mean ). Are you having GA or sedation ?

Probably nerves. I'm sure they will be keeping a close watch on you. Try and get a nights sleep.

Lucky you, I am just about to collect my husband from a failed TOE attempt. He has a very small swallow and couldn't cope with the camera. I suspect the next attempt will be under GA.

Oh dear, i cant blame him, it was awfull, but you gotta do what you gotta do ay. At least he had a go, its only the size of a little finger in thickness. So not that bad, if they could of done it under ga i would of preffered that :-)
