Hi Tony55,

I was started on Ramipril in March this year and apart from feeling groggy I got the most irritating cough which just seemed to get worse, I spoke to my arrhythmia nurse

who said it was one of the side effects of the medication and I was taken off it and started on candestartan and have had no further complications. I even feel better.

Maybe its worth speaking to your hospital link or your GP.

Good luck,

Wendi

Have you thought about taking the drug just before bed so that you sleep through any side effects? They might wake you of course! Alternatively, a change of drug?

hi robert i'll try taking ramipril at night and see if that helps.thanks tony

I had similar problems with ramipril. I was started on 2.5mg and this was raised to 5mg a week later after a kidney function blood test.

I felt rough on day two of this so dropped back down to 2.5 and spoke to the nurse at the Heart Failure clinic and, after a week and another blood test, told to raise this to 5 again.

This time I was OK so, after a week and yet another blood test, (vampires aren't they?) I was told to raise it to 10mg.

I do this by taking 5mg in the morning and another 5mg at night and am OK with this.

You might benefit from asking if you could split your dose too.

I've been taking Ramipril since 2006...first 2.5, then 5. Some minor coughing was the only side effect and it gradually went away. I have been told by my stateside cardiologist that it has great benefits...beyond the blood pressure.

I have been taking Ramipril since jan 2014, for a year at 2.5 but last april put up tp 5. i do have a bit of a dry cough at times but not too bad. I was told to take this at bedtime as it can make you a bit sleepy/groggy so have always done so. Don't seem to have side effects during the night or next day.
