Hi there I have been on Ramirpil for 3 1/2 years dose 5 mg. I believe that I was given it to help my heart to pump more efficently. I have permenant AF and heart failure. I am also on Bisopropol and Diltazem and a NOAC. What other meds are you on. I have had no real side effects on Ramipril 5 mg but it was incresed to 7.5 a few months ago and it did have side effects then but have gone back to the lower dose and I am akay.

Hi Cassie I take Apixaban and have Flecainide as PIP I think the Ramirpil is for high blood pressure. I don't understand as my BP is around 135/70

I have the impression this is now considered too high. Have you researched all the ways you can influence high blood pressure through diet?

I have recently had to change my doctors but my old GP was happy with my BP being between 120/80 and 140/80. I have been taking beetroot capsules also lost 3 stone I really don't want to start taking something until I try other options

I am told that 120/80 is ideal. Blood pressure is notorious for going up when we go to have it measured!

Maybe you could buy a blood pressure monitor (some work through your finger) so you can see what the BP is really doing at home, and take the results with you to the doctor's. Research on here for details, as some of them are not considered effective. (They may not work when in AF)

Also, check with your doctor - Is he 'trying to help' or does he really think this tablet is essential?

It is for high blood pressure as my husband is on it.

Hi Cassie, I've been on ramipril for about 7 years - gradually the dose has been increased to the maximum of 10mg.

I wasn't aware of any side effects while they were the only tablets I was taking. Though as its increased I've developed a permanent ringing and wooshing (in time with my pulse) between my ears, which my GP says can't be the ramipril, but I wonder!

Now I'm on rivaroxaban and bisoprolol too, so I'm not sure what meds are having what effect on me :)

What side effects made you have to reduce yiur dose? X

The higher dose gave me what I call brain fog!! I just did not function as well, bit more tired could not concentrate as well. I reduced the dose and felt much more normal. I have to be careful with Bisoprolol as well over 5 mg and I get vision problems (feel if I am looking through unfocused binoculars) and a bit out of it, zombie like. Its all trial and error.

I've been taking Ramipril for about ten years now, I was on 10mg but was reduced to 5mg after I had my Pacemaker fitted. I've not noticed any side effects from it but I do take a number of other drugs so it is quite hard to tell.

I was on it for a few months with no problems and then I developed 'the cough' a side effect of ramipril and changed to indapimide. However, my husband has been taking it for 5+ years with no problem

I take Sotalol and Apixaban, as well as Ramipril for kidney protection. BP rose so increased Ramipril and ok till I got to 10mg, could not stay awake and zoned out during the day.

Now reduced it to 2.5mg and take Amlodopine which I seem ok on.

Doc said I was sensitive to Ramipril??

Not had any effect on my AF so far.

Is the Amlodopine a blood pressure tablet as well? it just seems we start taking these meds and then need higher doses.

Thats what I take it for , but they can cause tiredness but so far so good. I feel so much fitter on the reduced Ramapril.

I've been taking 5mg Ramipril for 4 months and I've had no problems on it so far. I take it as I have some ventricular fibrosis. I haven't really noticed any side effects, other than an occasional cough, which clears up on its own. It's lowered my blood pressure too, which is unnecessary and has given me a few low blood pressure symptoms (I'm around 100/70 most days). I'm keeping an eye on it but so far I'm OK.

Hi...before this medicine my bp was 110/60, pretty constant.....started taking this medication and bp dropped to 75/60 somedays,,,,,I'd be lying in bed telling myself to get up, but couldnt, felt a bit of a mix beween not wanting and not being able to...anyway, still on the medication, along with other stuff but am intending to come off it

Did not take it long drove me nuts

I've been on Ramipril for 10 months now, gradually increasing daily dose to 10 mg, 5 in morning, 5 in evening. I have 'the Ramipril cough' for sure, worse since getting to the higher dose. Throat always has a dry tickle, cough is completely unproductive, but puts an added strain on the heart - annoying. Am in permanent but asymptomatic AF.
