I am confused on the magnesium debate. I have just had magnesium citrate delivered and was planning to start on lowest dose of 200mg. But there is so much conflicting advice out there am now unsure if I should take it at all. On 10mg bisoprolol only, still getting AF occasionally and thought it would help eliminate those episodes. Any advice gratefully received.

As I say often on here you should discuss any supplements with your doctor before embarking on such a journey. Many people find that magnesium helps their AF but others not so. It can also make one very "loose" if taken to excess. One problem as I understand it is that the ideal level in the body is quite a wide range so a blood test may well tell you it is not necessary whilst practise may find it useful. Bottom line is what you do is up to you but be careful.
Are you not on any anticoagulation by the way? I'm sure you understand the five times increase in stroke risk from AF.

Thank you, will talk to my GP, need to see him to discuss my increase in AF episodes recently.
Not on anything else at moment, will ask about that too.
Hi Tracy,
Be very cautious if taking Epsom salts baths...
Epsom salts bath can be of great benefit but are contra-indicated to individuals with heart problems, diabetics, pregnancy and high blood pressure.
The Epsom Salt advisory service is worth contacting...

If you have seen any of my posts you will know I am a magnesium advocate. I started supplements 10 weeks ago and have been virtually AF free as opposed to weekly attacks and hospitalisation at least every 2 months.
As Bob says there is no one size fits all when it comes to magnesium but the incidence of magnesium intolerance, from my research, is a low percentage of the population.
@Bigleg is a wealth of information about magnesium and I have learnt a lot from her.
Personally? Since I started magnesium supplements my AF is completely under control, I have tons more energy and even better for me my depression which has been around for 3 decades has completely lifted.
If you start looking at magnesium you will - as my nutritionist told me - realise it is one of the most undervalued nutrients in our body and responsible for some 300 biochemical reactions, helping everything from stabilizing heart beat to reducing night leg cramps and improving mood.
I am even sleeping better than I have for 10 years!
Are you taking any other meds as well as the magnisium.
