Ablation october (30) 2014 for AVNRT.

Hi,

Female 41 years old. Been ablated (succesfully according to the cardiologist who performed the operation) in october (as my title suggests). All was going pretty well until a couple of weeks ago. I suddenly had a bout of AVNRT. Now, in february I had to take Depakine (Valproic acid) for my mood, subscribed by my GP. And that made things worse (I guess). It also messes with your hormones. Quitted a week ago but I still get palps, bouts of AVNRT. Now, I read that Depakine can cause palpitations but it's not mentioned in the leaflet in Europe, but it does in the US. I am so worried. That I have to undergo a new ablation... I must say that my cardio told me that the AVNRT could come back but much shorter in time, which it does. But the skips and hard bangs make me scared. Anyway, monday I have an appointment with my cardio and I hope he says it's normal and that my heart will arrange itself again. Online I read that it can take a while before your heart heals. I read from 3-6-12 months. But how comes it goes well three months and then all of a sudden... chaos. You may always think of me!

What is AVNRT, and how does it differ from AF, I get really confused with all these other heart acronyms, with this and SVT, fast tachycardia etc.

May be best to ask BobD, he really is the oracle on all things heart related on this forum.

Oops. Avnrt is atrio ventricular reentrant tachycardy, a form of svt. Thanks for your feedback will return tomorrow, it's almost midnight over here. Thanks again!

Don't worry. I had an avnrt ablation a few months ago and it was very straightforward. It only took 50 minutes and was no more onerous than a dental visit. It only needed a single spot ablation to the point where the av node was leaking , which took about 5 minutes.

Four months later I am now off all meds and energy levels are improving.

I've never heard of AVNTR. I've been diagnosed with paf - is it the same thing? Because your description of feeling scared and skips and hard bangs sounds like mine. Sudden heart chaos, fast random beats and loads of hard punchy bangs coming from the bottom of my chest. Nasty isn't it. M

AVNRT is a form of SVT. It feels very scary. Now it feels less scary since my ablation. It lasts less long. I hope it will subside. They say six months healing time? How long did it take in your case (ablation)?

Sorry for the late reply - I have had some difficulty getting posts or anything re the forum lately, but hopefully resolving. My ablation in 2004 was successful for ten years. Apart from one period of quite frightening multiple ventricular ectopics over about a week, two weeks or so after the ablation, no problems at all. I stayed on 2.5 bisoprolol. But it came back suddenly with a vengence Oct 2013, and I ended up in A & E. have had episodes of Paf, always at night, since then. Waiting for Holter monitor and EP consultation. Hope you are well. Thanks for all your replies and message, Bob. Tomorrow I have to go to my cardiologist/EP and I am almost 100% sure that the whole lot of symptoms was caused by the Depakine. The ill feeling, the sweating, sore muscles, palpitations. I even suspect that I had a very mild form malignant neuroleptic syndrome which can take a while to resolve, even after a complete quit of the med... Nearly all symptoms match. So, when this is true and my housedoctor did not believe me, then he is 'fired'. Will see what my cardio says. He is the doctor.

I am just back at home again. He thinks it might have been from the pills. They didn't want to do bloodwork and that my housedoctor should do that but I guess it is not necessary, otherwise they would do it anyway (when it's urgent). I am thinking about changing from GP, because the trust is a bit gone. I told him that it all started with the pills and that it went slightly better now after 14 days without those pills. I also told him about the short bouts of AVNRT but he was not impressed. My cycle test was fine, 140 watt. Some PVC's (premature ventricular contractions) but of course my heart behaved. He said that it is okay to wear another monitor for one week (next week, because they were not available at the moment). If I get lots of pvc's during that week, he might consider to perform a second ablation. He also said when I was about to leave that they are not dangerous. 'Not dangerous', he repeated it twice. So I should believe him. And I told him that all went fine until I got those pills. So, for me, the source of my palpitations are the pills. I hope it is. And that it will not return because it was not funny
