Those of you who take magnesium/potassium supplements can you tell me how much you take and is it ok to have with AC`s and beta blockers etc. or do you just eat food loaded with magnesium/potassium.
Many thanks

Potassium supplements are only with medical advice- I've done well with diet and coconut water is the highest- then bananas, salmon, tomatoes etc
Nuts are good for magnesium abut some people will tell you abut their magnesioum supplements
Sunflower seeds are rich in magnesium, potassium and iron. I sprinkle about 1 tablespoon into a small amount of probiotic yogurt (I also add course cut oat bran, also from Holland and Barret).
Actually, I have not had a single episode of afib sine I started eating them, but of course I cannot say for certain whether the seeds can take credit!
it makes for a nutritious start to my breakfast.
Hi, which probiotic yogurt do you use I tend to use the Greek yogurts with fresh fruit and sprinkled flaxseed, will try the oat bran.
Agree with Rosy, taking potassium without being prescribed it can be extremely dangerous, please don't.
Magnesium is very hard to absorb orally and unless you are having cellular, not serum, tests how would you know that it was affective?
A good, balanced diet with the best and preferably organic food is the best way of taking in minerals.
I use Epsom salts as a mineral supplement, that is in a bath! a good 15 min soak at leAst once a week, minerals are well absorbed through our skins. It is a cheap, safe way of topping up but can make you feel quite fatigued so only at night.
There are good mineral salts available from good health shops which have a mix of essential minerals which I have taken but with no noticeable effect.
I might also say that I did take magnesium for a while but it made absolutely no difference to my AF, the only thing that helped long term was ablation.
Pumpkin seeds for Magnesium, very tasty.
My EP recommended Andrews liver salts
Brazil nuts are also a good source of magnesium (but expensive). Personally I get tablets from Healthspan.
Tony.
Spinach and kale are also high in magnesium.
If you are considering magnesium supplements, please be aware that there are side effects to these. I tried them for a while but had to stop due to the side effects.

I take potassium as a supplement and have done for almost 3 years with no problems, we are all different though.
Take a look through an American AF website such as this one
and you will notice that they all take Magnesium and many/ most take potassium .
Pat.
Potassium supplements can cause arrhythmias if dose is wrong whereas if potassium is taken in food it is just excreted if not needed!
A potassium supplement bought in measured doses should not cause harm in those recommended doses.
Taking xxmultiples of the dose could lead to overdosing and therefore be dangerous of course.
Also, if anyone has impaired kidney function or other reason not to take them they shouldn't.

Many thanks to all for your recommendations for potassium and magnesium food etc
A late comment. I have AF and do take Magnesium Oxide (a magnesium labelled 'Garbage' in the aforementioned website). I take vitamin E capsules with it to aid absorption. I take it for cramps and 'restless legs' syndrome and it's very effective - my doctor has not advised me to stop taking it.
