I have today been told by my doctor that I have diabetes. he has arranged for me to see the diabetes nurse at the surgery, I am so worried, what should i expect.
Diabetes: I have today been told by my... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Diabetes
Sorry this forum is for atrial fibrillation so unless there are those with AF AND diabetes we would not be able to comment.

I am so sorry if I have upset anyone by asking about diabetes on this community, I didn`t realize there was a a separate community for diabetes, again apologies.
So sorry if I have upset anyone, I will be sure to visit the right community next time. I didn`t realize there was a separate one for diabetes.
Hi Bigleg, may I ask do you have AFib or AFl?
I agree that many conditions are interrelated and that we should be supportive and there is also a separate community on HealthUnlocked for Diabetes so may I suggest Ruth that you also look and transfer to that community for help and support on the Diabetes.
If you do have any questions regarding AF then of course we here will be much better placed to help and support you as everyone on this site has or has had AF.
Very best wishes.
C Dreamer you put it so much better than I did. Thank you. My worry is that people may find AFA forum and not look properly for the correct HUL for their condition. and thereby miss so much more support.
Bob
Thanks for your reply, I will definitely go to the diabetes community, once again thank you.
Thank you, I remember you asking a few questions regarding AF. It is not uncommon for people to be completely asymptomatic so the diagnosis of AF coming as a big surprise. An ECG will show the lack of a P wave which is the small hump just before the high spike you see on all the TV shows.
I am sorry that your husband has so many conditions to deal with, you are obviously a great support to him. Have you read Dr Sarah Myhill? Although she specializes in CFS she has developed theories concerning mitochondria. I have learned a great deal about general health through her site and her book.
I am connecting IBS, migraines, Hypermobility and Myasthenia but can't yet find a link to AF. I have talked to my EP and whilst there is proven link to my physiology and migraines as I have a hole in the heart and there is a suspected link with migraines and AF, he believes it is a totally unrelated problem because it is confined to the electrical dysfunction rather than physiological, although to my mind of course they are interlinked.
Whilst I completely agree with a wholistic viewpoint, something completely lacking in the NHS, I also believe there is a place for segmentation on sites such HealthUnlocked as the majority of people want to focus on their own complaint and want support from people who they believe have experienced what they are going through. There will always be people such as ourselves who will surf further and wider and so will gather this sort of information. You will have noticed that a number of us for instance graduated to the Healthy Eating community but also post here.
Hope you find some answers, by the way where in the world are you?
Please send diet sheet to j.smailes53@btinternet.com. Thank you
As a diabetic (T2 for 3 years and now in the pre-diabetic range) I would say, don't read quack emails or adverts promising cures, eat everything in moderation, lower your carbs a bit (not down to the low carb high fat diet levels) and exercise. Speak to your diabetic nurse, take a list of questions if necessary. Join Diabetes.org.uk which has lots of excellent support and information, join your local diabetic group (where I live we have an excellent one) and always remember that you need to control the diabetes, don't let it control you.
Go onto the diabetes group on HUL and speak to other diabetics, I also belong to severall Facebook diabetic groups which are good. Another thing, ask your nurse if you can do the Xpert course, it teaches you all about what diabetes is, how to manage it and how with work (not quack ideas) you can bring your levels back into the normal range. You will still be diabetic, but you will have it under control.
Good luck.
Thanks Ceejayblue for your advise, what with AF, thyroid problems and now diabetes, I`m getting a bit depressed, it seems to be, every thing is coming all at once. Once again thanks for your reply.
Hi Ruth, there may be some correlation between the thyroid and the AF. Ceejay has offered you some good advice, hope you can find some improvement with your health soon.
And if we can help with the AF you know where we are. All the best CD.
Thanks for your reply.
Please send that diet sheet to pamandpeteboam@yahoo.co.uk thank you.
Thank you so much for all the info. I have only been told by my GP over the phone yesterday about having diabetes and he has arranged for me to see a nurse next week. With all the links you have given me I at least will be able to perhaps understand a little more, so once again thank you.
