metoprolol caused diabetes ????

I read that metoprolol can cause/trigger type 2 in 20% of the ppl who take them. Any thoughts on this.

I was on metoprolol for 7 months. W no family history or any blood sugar issues. Now I have high blood sugar, reactive hypoglycemia etc. my dr thinks it’s only matter of time until full blown type 2. I have an appt w diabetes educator soon. I’m 37 lead an active lifestyle eat well all the things so to suddenly develop type 2 out of nowhere seem odd to me.

Metoprolol can raise blood sugar. Many articles on the subject.

My blood sugar has increased after being on metoprolol for almost 2 years. But the doctor says it is not yet a concern. He explained why due to other factors but I can't recall specifics.

Your appt with the diabetes educator should provide answers. Would be good to include your cardiologist on the consult to perhaps prescribe another medication.

At 37 you are a prime candidate to "kick afib to the curb" by the minimaze procedure or other alternatives. Best to you in managing your health.

I am no longer on any medications for afib just blood thinners.they didn’t work for me. Did absolutely nothing but cause me more problems. I have had 2 cardio version and ablation to no avail. Seeking second opinion

suggest you seek a second opinion from a cardio thoracic surgeon rather than an EP so you can compare a mini maze procedure with further catheter ablations. Mini maze is not common, although more available in the US than here in the UK. Dr Wolf in Houston being the surgeon doing the most, there are others around the country too. There is a Facebook group for the wolf mini maze and also one for mini maze and other alternatives which can help you find someone.

I have taken metoprolol for years.... as part of a blood pressure "cocktail". I do not have diabetes, nor are there any indications that I should be watchful. I know that it slows down the heart rate, and when I had my one and only AFib event (2 months ago), they doubled it until I had the cardioversion at which time it was reduced back to the original dosage.

Hi

I was given 47. ? in 2008-9 but doubled by a new clinic. But I had trouble breathing.

Removed because BP went low on 47.?

In hospital 2019 with stroke and AF Rapid & persistent. Endocrinologist on my ward

put me on Metroprolol although I said NO to it. 3 tabs given 23.? x 3. I was breathless and very fatigued. Broke out in sweat with exertion.

It took 1 year 4 months to get me changed.

Bisoprolol is better suited to AF patients everytime.

I was told it was the DHB NZ's policy that ALL stroke patients be put on it.

BUT NO FOLLOW UP after a STROKE! Amazing stuff.

I demanded one but she the DHB Cardiac specialist left me still uncontrolled

on Bisoprolol.

Another 9 months but was changed to CCB Diltiszem by private specialist.

Was controlled immediately by that.

But last Friday pulse was 67 at 9am without med!

Now back to Bisoprolol 5mg am and 1.25 at night. It also helps my essential trmor.

This am BP and pulse at 6.30am. 123-128. /. 77. with pulse 77.

You figure out the metroprolol. It never agreed with me nor did Lor... from Metro....'s family.

Hi

Metroprolol is not good for AFs.

Bisoprolol is more suitable.

Side effects of Metroprolol was 187 average heart beats per minute DAY.

24-monitor showed 2 pauses in the night of 2 seconds (potential to cause a clot).

Breathlessness

Fatigue on exertion.

No thanx for the second time and it is on my banned list! Medical can take notice this time as they prescribed after a stroke because it was the procedure at my hospital even though I said NO to it.

Now they have changed their routine for AF patients.

cheers JOY 73 (NZ)
