When to take Warfarin?

My nurse was adamant it had to be at 6pm every day which totally did not fit in with work/meetings/commuting etc, and i kept forgetting it completely. I now take it at bed time along with my Sotalol and Statins and it doesn't seem to be causing a problem with my INR. What do others do?

I do take at 6pm but only because that fits in with my lifestyle.I'm fairly sure it doesn't matter when you take it so long as its the same time everyday. I set the slarm on my phone for 6 to go off every evening as a reminder or I'd never remember to take it.

It really doesn't matter when you take it so long as you do at the same time every day.. I have a seven day pill box and take all my pills before dinner each evening. Mind you dinner is a moveable feast +/- half hour! What the heck live a little. lol

Warfarin gave me a sore stomach when I took it at night. So now I take it midway through my breakfast each morning and have no problems. Breakfast time varies slightly each day for me. My GP said it was fine to take it in the morning and when I was in a cardiology ward recently they didn't see it as a problem.

It doesn't really matter when you take it. Fortunately warfarin is quite a forgiving drug compared with the newer anti-coags in that it has a longer half life so it sticks around in the system longer and any "bumps" are smoothed out.

I'm in the same position as you as I commute quite regularly into London. I just have a routine to take it before I eat which could vary from 6 through to 8. I write on the pink strip for the 5mg dose the day of the week when I should take it with a marker pen (M, T, W etc) so I can be sure I've taken a dose. My system can go wrong when I go out to dinner - but I look at the strip when I get back (or even the following morning!) and realise I've missed a dose and just take it then.

I've got a Coaguchek monitor (my best friend) which indicates my INR varies very little despite my rather erratic time keeping!

I take it at six but I have to say it's not a good time for me, there always seems to be something happening - I have my phone alarm set as well as a little pill box alarm, because sometimes I'm so busy I switch the phone alarm off and forget! It sounds as if it is more flexible than I thought though, so I may shift it slightly, even 8pm when everything has settled down would be better.

I take mine between 8 and 9 pm, after I've had my evening meal and wine !! If I go out partying I take it just before I go to bed - yeah even at 1 am !! I have no problem staying in range. Yes, like you I also take my other drugs at the same time, Statins, Betablockers. The only stuff I take first thing in the morning is my Ramipril.

I take mine in a morning except if I am going to have INR checked in the afternoon. Then I take it after that. They only say evenings because of testing.

I take mine last thing at night, whatever time I go to bed.

I take mine mornings before breakfast. The thought has just occurred to that I also arrange to have my INR checks in the early morning on my way to work. Might this "skew" the results? Hmm.....
