I was diagnosed with AF some 5 mths ago and still waiting to see specialist,I decided to contact my travel insurance company to report the condition. I was asked several questions none of my answers were negative, however I was told that my policy was nul and void. Has anyone else had problems with travel insurance.
Travel insurance: I was diagnosed with... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Travel insurance
We have a policy with Insure and Go, I have ulcerative colitis and my husband has AF. We pay slightly more to have both conditions covered although we were given the option of cheaper insurance if the conditions weren't covered, we've never had a policy cancelled. I would try a different company.
Hi Francis
My experience is that travel insurance is fine with A Fib with a small loading, except for what you said "waiting to see a specialist". If you are waiting for a confirmed diagnosis, or are waiting for a procedure, then generally they will not insure until after you have been seen or had the procedure done.
But if you were diagnosed 5 months ago why are you still waiting? I'd be playing havoc by now.
Good luck
Ian
We insure with Saga and had to declare AF. Might pay a bit more I can't remember. But (so their salesperson said!) they are the only company to cover pre-existing conditions, as long as you declare them. Hope I got that right!

I did exactly the same, our travel insurance was with the bank and has been for several years, they told me they could no longer insure me, we spoke with a few other companies and they are more than happy to insure us, so bye bye Lloyds Bank... I cancelled everything we had with them and moved banks
Well done MammaCass
My travel insurance was with AXA via co-op credit card.which I have now cancelled,(similar to Mamma Cass). Will look around for a suitable one.
Thanks Ian, my doctor put me on warfarin ,and beater blockers etc when he diagnosed A F and recommended me to see a specialist ,however the waiting time in this area is 5-6 months for non urgent cases,so it should be coming up shortly.
Thanks all
Hi Francis, I reckon your insurance company are being a bit naughty. I added my condition to our free Santander bank policy for Europe and ok I reckon I was well overcharged because it cost an extra £60, but granted no problem at all. We were then going to Mexico, so I bought an annual Worldwide policy via Traveltime and that was £211 which I thought at the time was very good.

I got insured with Staysure for my trip to Amsterdam last week, including cover for AF, and it was £25 - Columbus charged me £80 for a week in Busan the year before so I'm pleased. To insure for a whole year wouldn't have been too much more. So they also cover pre-existing conditions, and I was happy with that.
My lloyds tsb covers me for travel insurance but when I travelled in europe I took the risk and didn't bother to declare. Uganda, thought I had better. To my utter surprise they were happy to take me on, extra £100 for the year which again I didn't think too bad, job done. The problem for you is that you are awaiting a diagnosis. I have one, have had treatment and have sort of been 'discharged' which in effect means no regular appointments but a strong link with Papworth any time I need them (as I did very much this year), However the nfu was a different story, they did not want to know. There is a list of travel insurers on the af association website who quoted excellent rates for a one off trip so I am sure you will find some. Saga also seems a good plan to me tho I didn't try them.
I have always used Insure and Go, never had any problems and the rates seem quite good.
Last year my daughter decided to give me a Prague holiday treat. Can understand the searching for holiday insurance. Declared all my probs AF etc managed to get the most competitive from AgeUk. Unfortunately due to shock to the system - TIA never had hols!!! Must say insurance co were very good in honoring both mine and daughters expense.

I have gone through a number of travel companies and found Age UK the cheapest with good cover. Fortunately, have never had a claim so don't know how good they are in paying up if required.
I used Goodtogoinsurance a few weeks ago.
Just looked at my records and a few months ago we paid £220 for SAGA travel insurance, that's for me and my wife for one year, any number of trips but no longer than 30 days for any single trip. I think it was Europe only, but certainly didn't include USA and Canada which would have been expensive they said.
