Anyone else have a slow response to Cabazitaxel? Where your PSA fluctuated but eventually went down and chemo was successful?

It often happens that after the first infusions of cabazitaxel the psa slowly drops or even rises and then drops with the others. Do not rely too much on the psa, usually after 3 or 4 infusions scans are performed to see what the cancer is really doing.

Thank you. He was on Zytiga before then it stopped working. Can he try it again? Or should he go on another drug like Xtandi?

On Docetaxel here since November and my PSA has been all over the place. Start 17, next month 8, next month 14, going to text again in seven days. It was doubling monthly before so there is that. Had I not started chemo and done nothing else it could be close to three digits.

Thank you for the reply. My dad’s PSA was going up like crazy after Pluvicto failed. Such an emotional roller coaster.

Hi! Unfortunately my dad had the same experience with the PSA rising quickly after pluvicto didn’t work. My dad did the cabazitaxel for a few months and the PSA continued to rise but slowed down a bit. They did scans to get a better idea of what was going on after the 3rd round. Best wishes to you and your family! Hoping the Cabazitaxel works for your dad!

thank you for your reply! How is your dad doing now? What are his current treatments

Unfortunately his mets are on his liver and they decided to stop treatment after the 5th round as it was not responding much to the chemo. The chemo was taking everything out of him so quality of life wise, it was not worth it. he is on hospice now. However, in October they told him he would likely have a few weeks left if the chemo didn’t work and he is still here! He actually hasn’t declined much since stopping treatments.
