A retired Dr in my area told me to go to MD Andersen for. a second opinion, as there is a top team there for Pca. When I searched that hosp site, I dont see any evidence of such a team and its not one of the centers of excellence, with a top Pca oncologist [at its head], that I have seen mentioned in HU..

Does anyone know about the Pca people at MD Andersen or perhaps go there for treatment?

I went to MD Anderson and was very dissapointed. I had sent all my records weeks in advance, then traveled from Denver to Houston for my appointment. When the doctor walked in to the room, he greeted me, and said that I would be better off at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I was too stunned to say anything. It has always bothered me that he could have suggested Mayo in a simple call, email, or text before I made the trip to Houston. Thank you MD Anderson.

Interesting as MD Anderson is renown. Did he say WHY you would be better at The Mayo?

He did. At the time My best treatment option was SBRT, and he (Dr. Paul Corn) felt the the Mayo Clinic was better at SBRT than the folks at MD Anderson. I just don't know why they couldn't have told me that over the phone or in an email. Dr. Corn simply walked in the room and told me I should go to Mayo.

No kidding! Ty as both MD Anderson & the Mayo are options

MD Anderson is unique in that it has a whole urologic oncology department. Paul Corn is legendary.

Yes, I spent from 2018 to 2024 working with Dr. Sumit Subudhi, Medical Oncologist. He's terrific and very helpful. I also worked with Dr. Aung Naing (pronounced like the number 9). He's predominantly a Phase 1 trial physician but very sharp and helpful.

I would recommend starting with them!

Sorry for the expense and time this cost you but your location did make Mayo a more logical choice for treatment. Was there a unique reason you journeyed to Houston?

Timfc profile image
Timfc in reply toMgtd

I don't see why my location made Mayo a more logical choice: Mayo is only about 140 miles closer than Houston. I chose MD Anderson because of many very favorable reviews for their treatment of prostate cancer patients. I had tried to get an appointment with Dr. Eugene Kwon at Mayo, but the wait time would have been many months.

Sorry I assumed your location in MI would have been closer.

Actually I was born in Colorado and still live here. Not sure where MI came from. Anyway, I recently switched to doctors at the University of Colorado Anschutz Cancer Care Center and it is a night and day improvement over the care I had at the now-defunct Urology Center of Colorado.

I have been going to MDA since 12/22. I live on the east coast. I was diagnosed in 7/22. I am stage 4 5 +5. To date, my experience has been exceptional. My doc is compassionate, reassuring, and always responds to questions or concerns within 24 hours. I thank God everyday for the staff there.
