ACD (Anemia of Chronic Disease)

I had blood work this past week and the Pathologist did a perioperative (for knee replacement) analysis for anemia. They determined that I have mild ACD, Anemia of Chronic Disease. It is usually caused by inflammatory disease like cancer. The symptoms are the same as the ADT drugs except for the loss libido and testosterone. Has anyone else had problems with anemia? 78, on lupron and Xtandi. Had 28 sessions of IMRT to the Pelvis last Feb-March and 5 sessions of SBRT to met on a rib 2 months ago.

I was told it was a side effect of my ADT therapy.

I don't know if this applies, I don't think my husband is anemic but his red blood cells are always a bit out of range on his complete blood count labs. The oncologist says that it is because he has no testosterone.

I did a search of the H.U. history file and did not get a hint on:

Not quite the same for me, but my radiation caused a blood cancer, Myloidesplastic Syndrome with Ring Sideroblasts (MDS-RS). It first showed as anemia, but a bone marrow biopsy was used to find it. It is rare, but I think it is underdiagnoised. You might want to ask your MO.

Hi,

I’ve been on dual ADT for about 1 1/2 years with Xtandi and Eligard. Thus far, no issue with anemia. I do experience other side effects however. Mostly fatigue, night sweats, and tingling upper legs. I try to stay positive and count my blessings.

Best,

Joe S

Do you remember how long it took to get used to them? I'm pretty frustrated and was thinking today about just dropping the treatments and let nature take its course.
