Castrate resistant

Have become castrate resistant to abiraterone after 3 1/2 yrs.. Oncologist wants me to stop aby before starting chemo because aby may make chemo less effective, does that sound right?

If Abi does not work you can avoid its side effects during chemo.

I was on abiraterone for 5 years, and only stopped as it became ineffective. I continued it whilst i had targeted radiotherapy; but yes, a bit pointless whilst on chemotherapy.

Hello - Not sure, but a question - I am one year in on Lupron and Abi and wondering about CR timing - were you also on something besides Abi? Have seen some articles on Abi as monotherapy.

I am on Lupron of which I will continue on, also will stay on prednisone. With high volume metastatic PC, in general I have read, on average Castrate resistance sets in about 3 yrs. Of course there are exceptions to that

My docs have kept me on ADT although I am castrate resistant. Their view is that it is still working and doing something. Maybe that is because I am still low volume.

Thanks That's what I was wondering, if staying on zytiga would still block cancer growth while doing chemo. I am high volume.....Perhaps others have more info. on this site.

Just found the answer. taking zytiga while on chemo causes more side effects, possible liver toxity for example.

Consider the PRESIDE protocol (switching to enzalutamide and adding docetaxel):

Thanks TA...Oncologist and I discussed taking Xtandi. But did not go into details of when to start Xtandi. When I see her I will tell her about the PRESIDE trial......

Suggest you email the link before you see her.

Mistakenly missed 5 days of Abiraterone treatment….started again but concerned..would it be wise to increase dosage for a couple days….my next labwork scheduled for December…up till now treatment has worked well with very low psa and t levels….really hope I did not screw up…your help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Don't increase the dose. Max plasma concentration is just 2 hours and steady state concentration is achieved within 8 days. More important is to not miss prednisone doses.

once aberaterone stopped working, they tried Xtandi but that didn’t work either so back to chemo (he started with chemo after his surgery/radiation). He had 9x of taxotere but 10 months later PSA was rising so did pluvicto. Did 4 rounds of that but experienced a massive spread of bone Mets. Now doing Jevtana. He did eligard alongside all these treatments, every 6 months.

I hope he has a good outcome

Wolverine, I'm sorry but I never had chemo. I had radiation to the prostate bed when my PSA became detectable seven years after surgery, I wish you luck.

long story but I stupidly mistakenly went off Abiraterone for 5 days …back on it again i am concerned…should I temporarily increase the dose slightly? Should I ask for a blood analysis to see whathappened to my PSA and T which have been very low? My quarterly blood test is not till yearend . So dumb?.help would be appreciated
