Yep. Reminds me. I remember my first oncologist. I told her "hmmm, a warning for Finasteride for aggressive cancer is in the literature". With a humorous deadpan look on her face she said"you already have it". Yep you cant really get worse than the stage 4 cancer you already have.

that thought has been around for years, not sure if there is any science behind it

Apricot seeds contain amygdalin, the substance that has long been referred to in some alternative medicine circles as "vitamin" B17. It is not a vitamin. When ingested, amygdalin is converted by the body into cyanide and benzaldehyde. So if enough is ingested, it will prevent prostate cancer -- by killing the individual who ingested it. Although cyanide or benzaldehyde may be toxic to prostate cancer cells, the toxicity makes its use impractical. For further information, see

My late partner had colon cancer and being totally into holistic medicine endured three months of apricot kernel extract injections to no avail. Her cancer continued to progress and she died some months later (of the cancer, not the apricot extract).

As said by jlvincentjr, take enough and they will kill you. I knew of someone who did exactly that. He had prostate cancer and his treatment was failing, it was suggested to him by a well meaning person that he take Apricot seeds in a tablet form. The fact that they contain cyanide seemed to be overlooked.

He took them by them like sweeties and was complaining of acute pain, he was taken into hospital and died there.

If you research them on the web, you will see that they were meant to used in a balanced diet, not just to prevent, but to cure.

Hope this answers your question.

Why apricots (my favorite fruit) became a popular, ineffective (and sometimes lethal) cancer treatment is a mildly interesting story. Why it remains a fringe alternative choice many decades later is baffling. People have been dying from treatments derived from apricot pits for a very long time, some of them famous. Let's eat the fruit and stop with the nonsense.

It seems to me that Steve McQueen went to Mexico to try laetrile in the months before his death. I had not heard of it since, until today.

dhccpa profile image
dhccpa in reply toGrantB47

He did, but in fairness poor Steve McQueen was so far along with his cancer (and he had already done standard treatment) that probably nothing would have worked. He did not die from the apricot seeds, cyanide poisoning, etc.; he died from the severity of the cancer. And he was a lifelong smoker.

Actually he died from a heart attack immediately following surgery to remove a dead 5 inch tumor in his abdomen. The doctors told him he was not strong enough for the surgery but he insisted. Also although he was at a clinic in Mexico, he was under the direct care of a guy named Kelley who cured himself of pancreatic cancer as well as several others. At clinics like the one McQueen was at they give the amigdylin through a needle bypassing the stomach thus eliminating the cyniade issue.

I suggest you google Milan Brych and his practice. Hit the headlines in New Zealand and published a book titled 'World Without Cancer', if I remember correctly. He got kicked out of New Zealand and went to the USofA ......, Mexico? Many years ago I tried to cure the family's dog by giving him Leatrile - possibly killed him in the process!?

I realize it was a typing slip but stage $4 is apt.

Almost funny how so many comment on supposed toxicity of apricot kernels. I took 40/day for months with no issues, but this Lupron/Zytiga/prednisone action is truly toxic, mine is labeled as such. The side effects are brutal, but yeah apricot seeds can kill you! LOL!!!

London441 profile image
London441 in reply toIscetic7

Nice logic. The side effects of Zytiga can be lessened significantly, and it works. Apricot seeds have no medicinal value at best.

I bought apricot kernels for my husband I felt really ill after try them - I don't recommend them

There are so many safe foods to eat to fight cancer such as cucumber, watermelon pomegranite, apples (with skin) parsley, rocket - aka arugula, citrus pith , red wine ..... etc

The Prostate Cancer Foundation puts legitimate items on it’s website regarding food exercise and latest technology information and if you are signed up for their newsletter there is good solid information in them as well (warning they will try to get donations though).

Not a good treatment approach, especially if those kernels get stuck in your throat...

Thanks for all these replies - they helped me decide apricot seeds are out of my comfort zone - I'm going to stick with all the things I already do that have more substantiated results in the areas of exercise and diet!

Bitter almonds and peach kernels contain amygdalin. “It is a medically interesting but controversial compound as it has anticancer activity on one hand and can be toxic via enzymatic degradation and production of hydrogen cyanide on the other hand.” (a)

It is interesting and has shown anti-cancer effects but I’ll just say, “it’s complicated.” That means that someday, someone might find an anti-cancer use for it but in my opinion, it’s too complex and dangerous to attempt.

A suggestion: Look at well-researched and GRAS (generally regarded as safe) substances which have known anti-metastatic, or anti-angiogenesis properties. (Angiogenesis is how a tiny tumor attaches to the circulatory system to create blood vessels to feed it—interrupt that cycle and a, for instance, “micro-met” (tiny circulating tumor) cannot attach and feed itself and will eventually die from lack of nutrition.

There are many such substances: ALA, (alpha lipoic acid); Quercetin or Curcumin (consider “real” curmumin aka 85-95%--most sold is really simply cheap turmeric spice which only has ~2% curcumin, and “blends” often mean nothing.

All of the above show one or more anti-cancer effects and come from foods.

ALA: “ALA alone has been shown to decrease cell viability and proliferation in breast, ovarian, colorectal, and lung cancer cell lines, and was synergistic with chemotherapy. ALA also decreased cell migration and invasion in thyroid cancer cell lines”

Quercetin: “Quercetin has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of a wide range of cancers such as prostate, cervical, lung, breast, and colon.” (b)

Curcumin: “Curcumin has shown promising results in the treatment of several types of cancer both alone and in combination with other antineoplastic agents. It affects several signaling pathways and can thus effectively modify both the development and the growth of various tumors.. (c)

Always check with your Practitioner to make sure that there is not an issue with your health that might interact with one of the above.

I take all three daily, not to “kill cancer,” but I’m T2 w/out any distant metastasis and I hope to at least hinder any possible micro-mets from turning into metastasis before I start taking Orgovyx + Abi in a few weeks.

The apricot kernel thing was very, very big, back around the 1970’s and I think that some folk really did poison themselves. For a more recent case see: “Multiple Cases of Cyanide Poisoning by Apricot Kernels in Children from Gaza.” (d)

Cyanide from apricot seeds prevents PCa because it kills you first.

I will tell you a story of a neighbor who had breast cancer and was cured after going to Mexico and getting Laetrile injections among other things. She was told she had 12, maybe 18 months with treatment and 6 at most without. She was 51 years old at diagnosis and died at 80. Her and her husband spent two weeks at the clinic and were taught how to eat healthy.

It is important to note that Laetrile doesn’t contain cyanide but that it is manufactured in the stomach when the amygdalin mixes with the stomach acid. Injection eliminates this issue.

Strange to me that nobody mentions lycopene..."Lycopene has been found to effectively suppress the progression and proliferation, arrest in-cell cycle, and induce apoptosis of prostate cancer cells in both in-vivo and in-vitro conditions." Sep 2020

Yes I did switch from potatoes to tomatoes with breakfast - seems to help with weight control but I doubt I’ll ever know if it helps with my stage 4!
