Incontinence after Brachytherapy

My husband had Brachytherapy yesterday and everything went so smoothly and the whole process from start to finish was excellent and uneventful. No issues yesterday but today he is getting intermittent incontinence. Is that normal right after the procedure and goes away in a few days? Input from others who have similar experiences greatly appreciated.

True incontinence is not a common side effect of brachytherapy and is likely to be temporary if it does occur. Frequency and urgency are supposed to be more common, are you confusing frequency (need to pee often) and urgency (intense need to pee immediately ) with incontinence? If you have to pee suddenly you may not act quickly enough to prevent urination. I have both frequency and urgency as long term consequences of brachytherapy and IMRT so I can seem to have less control over urination but technically this is not incontinence. Incontinence is the inability to control your bladder or sphincter valves which can be caused by a fairly large number of things.

Yes I meant urgency but he seems to be improving every day with the control. Thank you for your informative response.

Hi, it has been about a year since I had my HDR. Woke up from the procedure with a catheter. Had it for a day, stayed 2 nights at hospital. 2nd day they removed to secure no major issues. Had some incontinence but went away....Only the first couple of weeks. nothing since...excercise, excercise, keeping in mind we are all individuals and have different reactions...but all preech the power of excercise.
