Completed my Prostate radiation treatments on July 11. I am on ADT (Orgovyx, Abiraterone, prednisone), and Flomax. The ADT will coninue for at least 2 years.
Last week, tested positive for Covid; put on Paxlovid- was advised to stop Flomax while on Paxlovid. Continuing with the other meds. Was told, Flomax can be restarted after the Paxlovis course ends.
Any info on Covid wrt Prostate cancer treatment regimen? Luckily, my radiation treatments ended before contracting Covid.
Thx

Thank you. Did not ask my provider about Ivermectin. Stopped Flomax. Hopefully, I will be over this in a week. Thanks again for taking the time to respond. Rgds.
I had finished my RT in late December 2023 and caught Covid in April 2023 (as did my wife) - I took Pavlovid (wasn’t on any contraindication meds but even then they would just have stopped it for a while)
I had no problems and it was just mild and persistent temperature, VERY sore throat, for the first 3 days, extreme fatigue ( probably not helped by having been on HT for 7 months by then. The paxlovid had no side effects except metal taste in my mouth for abou 5-6 hours after each tablet.
I got over it in about 10 days and was much better in 5-6 days with a bounce test positive for a couple of days about 10 days after testing negative but no symptoms even though I tests positive.
I had not long term after effects.
My wife who didn’t get the paxlovid had a worse time and it lingered for about 6 weeks to my 10 days.
You can check my profile but I have other issues which might suggest I would have more problems. So I think the paxlovid was excellent in limiting the impact and length of COVID and would use it again.
Thank you. I stopped Flomax. Mid-way thru the Paxlovid course. Using Tylenol to deal with the headaches. Feel much better now compared to two days ago. Thanks again for the detailed response. Rgds
I just read your profile. Wow! Humbled! Now, appreciate the downplayed, ‘but I have other issues’ wording better. Glad to see that your PSA has remained low after the RT. Do keep us posted on your continued progress. Rgds
Thank you for your kind and encouraging comments- looking back I’ve had a few life events outside my control. I am also aware (maybe as I ended up as a psychologist (via an equally odd journey) that knowledge is everything- and that medics don’t always know much about conditions outside their field.
Paxlovid has a lot of drug interactions and SE’s so you have to be careful taking it with ADT drugs. I contracted Covid back in early July and was able to ride it out without Paxlovid although I was offered it. I’m doing ok now. I did take antibiotics (Zpack) afterwards to ward off and secondary infection that might crop up in my lungs.
Thanks. My issue is that, once a medical professional, after getting all the information, prescribes a course of action, it would be difficult to go against it. More so, when there might be preventable consequences to not following their guidelines. So, I go along, hoping for the best. Rgds
I've had Covid three times while on Lupron and Erleada. No big deal. I was unable to get Paxlovid and the substitutes didn't do anything from what I could tell. Ivermectin is for deworming sheep, that's what to avoid.
I just started Paxlovid yesterday, after testing positive for covid the day before. I was surprised to see the number of drugs you need to stop (because of interactions) if you want to take Paxlovid. In my case, atorvastatin (Lipitor), Flomax, and Cialis, along with my daily Flonase nasal spray. Fortunately, I just finished weaning off prednisone, which is also on the list. I noticed Erleada too, though not one of mine.
A good reminder to keep your primary care doc up to date on all your meds!
