Some good news yesterday

I’m 66, dealing with PCa for 6 years, have had surgery and radiation 2x. Things were quiet for a year and a half. After a rapid rise in psa this spring, the docs at Duke put me on Lupron and Xtandi. The three month check up shows t level is down to 18, psa is 0.23, a decline of 96.5%. Thank God and modern meds!😀

Side effects are minimal, light fatigue (mostly afternoons), short hot flashes usually lasting 5 minutes or less. I had a bit of nausea and headaches when I started the Xtandi but not recently.

Definitely feeling less strength though. Got to join the Y!

I got 66 months out of Xtandi and Lupron before it gave up on me. It truly is a miracle drug.

my daughter got me a small portable fan to carry around with me for the hot flashes, and I use a head band to keep the sweat out of my eyes. Works pretty good together

yes. Weights will prevent weakness and aerobic exercise helps with fatigue. Good luck!

Glad to here you are feeling good . I have been on this for 27 months and me cancer has shown no progression. Unlike you i started with this and have not had to have surgery or radiation. My side effects sound very similar to yours. On a day to day basis i am functioning well. Biggest drag has been shrinking genitals and lose of body hair. Except for my gut i would look like a 12 year old boy.

Good luck with the treatment.

You lose body hair but get back hair lost to male pattern balding. Oh course how much depends on how long ago you lost that hair.

Fabulous!! If your hot flashes become annoying to you, you might want to try acupuncture. Dr. D'Amico recommended the treatment which I received at Dana Farber. It worked for me very soon after beginning the sessions. I had about 7 sessions to make sure the hot flashes did not return, and they did not return. Sloan Kettering also has acupuncturists attuned to treating hot flashes.

Was the acupuncture expensive, covered by insurance?

Sending you prayers for continued strength, health, support and happiness.

My dads thoughts for 17 years as he lived long and strong - were this.

"ALWAYS focus on something to look forward to, and plan as if nothing is wrong with you"

That mental "happiness and fortitude" is what kept him VITAL til the end.
