My dad has been battling stage four prostate cancer for nearly nine years. He's done remarkably well, all things considered. He's had chemo, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and second line hormone therapy.
Along the way he has had heart issues and also CNS lymphoma (brain cancer). He has been cancer free from the brain cancer for over two years.
Recently he's begun getting weaker and weaker with each passing day. Then, he began to experience severe back pain. We took him to the ER for scans. They ran a CT and discovered that he has a compression fracture on his L2 vertibre.
We are awaiting a MRI.
My question for those familiar with compression fractures, do they result in such extreme weakness? He is getting to the place where he can't walk at all!
I'm concerned about the CNS lymphoma being in his spinal column, but we won't know until the MRI.
I'm just looking for some first hand accounts to give me some peace of mind!
Thanks so much!

Sharp shooting pains can occur in compression fractures IF a nerve is pinched. Musculoskeletal pain can occur as the weight bearing line changes and pressure comes of other muscles and ligaments in surrounding areas. Compression fractures can be treated with Kyphoplasty and/verti broplasty whe e the doctor inserts a needle in middle of vertibra and puts surgical cement which hardens in 7 -8 minutes and that restores the normalcy. The entire process take about 15 to 20 minutes. No admission is required.
I have great news. I had a compression fracture on L5 and fracture of L4. Both were repaired at the same time without surgery. They used a procedure called Kyphoplasty. I was in the hospital in the morning and out in the early afternoon.
9 years that’s great Warrior, I’m going on 8 years myself. Chemo, ADT, Xtandi. Recently I started having lower back and hip issues, the later in the day the worse it gets. I have a MRI scheduled for Monday, hopefully I’ll find out what’s going on. Good luck Warrior 🙏
I second that , I would be very interested in the results of your MRI. I have developed back pain over the last three weeks or so. My last two PSA results have shown increases from undetectable to 0.12.
I would venture my professional (ex-Chippendale dancer) opinion that it's your hip. If you're in the NY city area, the best hospital is "Hospital for special surgery" in Manhattan and best doctor is Dr. F. Boettner (yep, I get a 20% referral fee and a free Mickey Dees Kid's happy meal - with a plastic toy).
I catch your drift....... mine hurts when I get out of bed in the a m.......as if I twisted my whole body while sleeping. Thank God I'm able to manage the pain all day with just two Tylenol. I know this is stupid but I'm a stupid guy..... take my advice and try the Tylenol (with water of course), Get better!!!
