Video of my first SBRT

This link is to a video of my first SBRT treatment on April 29, 2024. Thought people might be interested.

The CyberKnife unit is locked on the fiducials in my prostate to within 0.1 to 0.2 mm (.004 to .008 in). The internal computer follows any movement the patient make.

The unit focuses a beam of ionizing X-Rays that are 3 to 10 mm diameter on the cancer. All this is programmed by Dr. Pugh of Anova Cancer Care, Lone Tree, Colorado.

The video is speeded up from twenty-five minutes to one. I was not breathing as fast as the video recorded. Music of your choice is played over high-fidelity speakers. The machine is quiet, unlike an MRI.

What is the outcome? We have to wait and see.

Side effects are not bad. Some confusion, body soreness from lying on the table for so long without movement, frequent urination, and a little down mood. There is nothing after three treatments that need any further care.

I am nearly 85 and in good health. I maintain an optimistic outlook. Cancer is not metastasized according to scans.

The machine could make an astounding horror movie. It was antsy enough watching it in person.

Did you use any type of spacer gel?

No. I discussed this at length with the doctor, and he felt the accuracy of the beams and the enema just before the procedure would protect the rectum. I will keep you updated on whether this was adequate or not.

jeez—something out of Sci-fi. Thanks for sharing. I’ve asked to see the machine I’ll be under at my hospital, but it’s always been too occupied. The treatments to my P and LNs are scheduled for August. It’s an image guided system—don’t know the name. (IGRT). I’ve been told it takes about 10 minutes per session (28 times ). Best wishes to you for effective results.
