My dad 81 was diagnosed in Aug 23 with PC Gleason 8/9 with local spread. He was on Lupron immediately and underwent TURP and orchiectomy in Nov and 10 rounds of radiation. A PET scan in Dec revealed further spread and the doctor started him on abiraterone. The diagnosis was also updated to hormone resistance. Yesterday a scan showed new growth in Liver and Lungs. He got started on docetaxel - I am not sure how many rounds right now. Throughout this whole time he has had a constant burn and pain in the rectum. At times the pain comes in waves and he is in tears. Doctors can't find anything and have attributed it to the nerves. He is on a pain patch and morphine too now. Lately he is unable to sit or stand and able to sleep on only one side.
I am writing to see if anyone has or had similar experiences and had better outcomes with docetaxel when metastatic and castration resistance are established. We are hoping that the chemo will improve his pain symptoms but not sure what to expect given the previous treatment failures. He is in India.
Any feedback appreciated but looking for pain solutions.

To be honest I've having palliative docatexal chemotherapy for advanced stage 4 prostate cancer.
I'm having cycle 5 next week and to date I have experienced only minimal side effects on days 5 & 6'cycle 1 and days 3 & 4 cyles 2 - 4 ie slight shortness of breath and tiredness.
I had further scans after cycle 4 last week and due results after cycle 5 to see if the cancer has been slowed down/stopped.
I have had some variable bone pain in my left too leg but believe this could be flare from the Prostap hormone therapy I also receive as a 3 monthly injection.
In summary I've been pleasantly surprised how tolerable docatexal has been and look forward to receiving my scan results, hopefully positive.
Good luck to your Dad whatever you decide for next steps.
I had 5 rounds of Docetaxel. I was in good shape prior being on ADT. The chemo knocked the hell out of me and did cause a 0.2 drop in psa. Considering the pain your dad's in, this will only make him feel worse. Time to think quantity vs quality. Let him decide.
From the onset, I did chemo by Taxo drug for 6 cycles. At the same time I was still taking Xtandi 120 mg every day. My PSA dropped from 117 to 5. The side effects were hair loss, and general fatigue. Right now I am on Lupron every 4 months, Xgiva every 4 months, Xtandi 120 mg every day. My PSA has come down to 0.09. My PSA has been like this for over 4 years. I hope this is helpful to you.
