Cyproterone and Blood Pressure

I am currently on LHRH hormone therapy in preparation for radiotherapy followed by HDR brachytherapy for my locally advanced PCa, T3a Gleason 8, no visible mets fortunately.

I have been suffering from quite unpleasant hot flushes which have shown no signs of going away.

I discussed this with my consultant and he prescribed Cyproterone 50mg once a day.

Well, after a week the hot flushes after an initial very uncomfortable flare have almost disappeared, however I checked my BP this morning and it has risen from its normal 140/70 to 170/85.

140/70 sounds a bit high but for a 76 year old its now considered normal, but 170/85 is definitely far too high!

As a heart attack survivor this is quite concerning, I shall be taking professional advice on this next week but was just wondering if anyone on this forum has had a similar experience with this drug?

Good luck to everyone fighting this nasty intruder.

You might get relief from hot flushes with acupuncture, venlafaxine, oxybutynin, Megace, or estrogen patches.

I've tried sage and similar organic cures but nothing has worked, acupuncture is an option though.....

"organic cures" don't work, except as a placebo.

Check with cardiologist and if even on current blood pressure medicine, they need to check on any conflicts with cancer medicine and adjust your BP medications or provide different types.

here is what Uptodate says about cardiovascular side effects. Cardiovascular: Extrasystoles, hypotension, palpitations, tachycardia. In other words it causes low blood pressure. Weird. They do say it is a risky drugs for people with cardiovascular disease

We don't add any salt at home, but we had a Chinese meal last week which was a saltfest! Have to be more careful ....

If the Chinese did not add salt to their cuisine, it would taste like world renowned English fare.....Cheer up Mate.......

Note: I wish to offer my apologies if I offended anyone regarding my so-called humor about "race" or "misogyny". To me, humor is boundless and since we entered this word crying, I thought it would be a good idea to exit laughing.

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

I find that vitamin D3 & K2 appears to have settled my sweats down

Thanks for the info, unfortunately I can't take K2 supplements because I'm on anticoagulants for AF.
