My PET/CT scan on November 1 detected progression of metastatic prostate cancer while on Lupron. This made my cancer castrate resistant and I am on Abiraterone 1000 mg + Prednisone 5 mg.
The PET/CT report also stated severe coronary artery calcification. Yesterday I had CT scan of the heart. The report shows a very high calcium score of 1609 and significant calcification in multiple arteries. One artery is showing severe stenosis 70% to 80%. The cardiologist is sending me to the Cath lab for angiogram.
The CT scan also shows the precarinal lymph node of size 10 by 8 mm.
So you never know what surprise PET/CT scan can bring. So, look for other things on the PET/CT scan report.

I'm surprised (but shouldn't be actually) at your age this is your first CT Calcium score. You didn't say you had a prior one done. I had CTC and a 2D echo done 2 years ago when my PCP wanted to put me on a statin. My score was a 3 and the 2D echo was basically clear. So I opted to not go on the statin. Now 2 years later, my cholesterol spiked and I'm on a statin. 10mg Atorvastatin. I'm 57 at the moment. I exercise a lot and eat basically what I want to some extent. Anyway, good luck with your tests, sounds like stents are in your future.
Thank you for sharing. In my case a CT scan showed a tumor in my chest. Fortunately it turned out benign. You never know indeed what a CT/PET scan can find. On the positive side it is good they discovered these problems and you are being helped. Hang in there, brother.
i have cac. If you change your diet, do exercise, take the right supplements etc, then cac is usually easy to stabilize or reverse. I have three stents in. They almost liked me during the procedure, causing a dissection. The stents made my angina worse, not better. 5-10 mg off Crestor will harden the plaque and stabilize it but you’ll want to eat and take natto supplements as well as a few others as well
Thanks for the info. I am going to have an angiogram on Thursday, Dec 21. Did have stents placed for calcified arteries? I understand that placing stents in calcified arteries could be complicated because of the hard nature of the plaque.
My son age 51 has been on Lupron and generic Zytiga and prednisone since December 2022. Thus far no problems except I think he seems more tired but he’s changed jobs and there’s probably a lot more stress in a new job. He goes in for bloodwork and the injection every three months and I just spoke with him and he hasn’t had any problems with calcium. Please keep us posted how things work out for you. I don’t believe he’s needed any statin yet…just taking those three medicines so far.
So I showed some calcification as well but mild, I had been taking calcium pill daily and discontinued that. Winter vs summer your body reacts differently to calcium. You should read up on calcium and how to let your body move it to the bones vs the arteries.
But be careful of the vitamins that help in this respect as they can throw your blood values off.
Is your doctor involved on this?
Exercise and LOTS of it have cleared my arteries so I am in the less than 10% of men population my age in terms of clear arteries.
