I used to eat a lot of dark chocolate. Loved it! Very low carb! Bitter! Nice with almonds. I don't anymore right now. I would like to. Neither one of these hypey articles mention the problem with lead (or cadmium) contamination of dark chocolate 😳😃

The articles do mention consumption should be in _moderation_. I'm not too worried about lead since it is primarily dangerous to children. As a kid and for years until it became outlawed, I worked regularly with tin-lead solder, among other toxic substances like model airplane glue, leaded gasoline (I mowed a lot of yards for pocket money), etc.

Lead or cadmium? Consumer Lab, which tests cacao products, recommends Target's Good and Gather brand as having the highest flavonols with the least cadmium.

Thanks DHCP - good point about cadmium. I added it to my original question about. Also is your username networking related? 😃

It's an old acronym based on name/profession combined. A hangover from the early days of internet names.

Nice! Slightly disappointed it has nothing to do with DHCP, AKA "dynamic host configuration protocol". Has is likely you have computers at home when your computer plugs in it gets its IP address dynamically from your phone company modem/router box, via said DHCP protocol. The laptop says "I am here, I am here, I am here, I am here ..." - and then the DHCP wakes up and says "okay I hear you, here's an address, join the club". 😂

Ahhh. No, nothing that complicated. In the early days of AOL, early 90s, I had all kinds of names. Finally settled on this one.

I eat dark chocolate covered coffee beans. They give the health benefit of the chocolate, as you mention, but also the beneficial alkaloids in the coffee. Or so I tell myself.

I make up chocolates from unsweetened bakers chocolates and here is the recipe:

3 bars of bakers chocolate - and a scoop of coconut oil melt 1 1/2 min in microwave

lots of grated ginger

lots of grated fresh turmeric

pepper

cinnamon

cut up broccoli sprouts (heated over hot water)

bee pollen

maple syrup - darkest you can find - 3 swirls

crushed walnuts

mix well with a beater and spoon out like macaroons

refrigerate

My brother who has prostate cancer has about 3 of them a day but the whole family is asking for them and like them.

Where I used to work, they also recommended the dark chocolate for people with sugar issues- especially the 70% level chocolate. Interesting that it has that many more benefits.

Never had to rely on any article to convince me to eat chocolate. You should note however that it's very high in oxalates. It's a potential problem for some, not so much for others. Also it is high in copper. Some report that a good thing, some report it as bad. Would it stop me eating it? Not likely. But I wouldn't eat a couple of bars a day.
