Fluoxetine (Prozac) to help with extreme hot flash/sweats

I am currently on Lupron 3 month shot and Zitiga treatment, began this past July. I am experiencing very extreme hot flashes and severe sweats. It was suggested that Fluoxetine (Prozac) might help. Does anyone have any experience, effectiveness, side effects to share using Fluoxetine for this purpose?

Thanks for any input.

My hot flashes were horrible, I would have them about every 1 to 2 hours, full body sweats. I tried 4 different anti-depressants to no avail. Even though my MO had suggested that I might try acupuncture, I took the drugs. On the suggestion of another friend, I finally got hooked up with a great acupuncture office. I live very close to a large Asian population just NE of Atlanta. It has made a huge difference for me.

Hello- any idea how the accupunture helps this? My MO recommended black cohosh and it doesnt seem to work.

I don’t understand but it’s been used for thousands of years. Strangely, Medicare doesn’t cover it for hot flashes but they do for back pain.

Started with gabapentin, then venlaxafine, now on exercise and megace.

Did the hot/sweats go away all together?

I've read reports of venlafaxine (Effexor) being helpful sometimes:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/199...

although this refutes that:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Other interventions with demonstrated efficacy are aural acupuncture, Megace, estrogen patches, and oxybutynin.

The FDA recently approved Veozah for hot flashes in women. Anecdotally, my friend with PCa says it works quite well for him.

TA,

I was wondering about using Veozah for hot flashes too, but thought was only for use by women. Is the doc using it off-label or is it ok for men?

Off-label.

Please try 20mg Megace. Ask dr for a prescription asap. I did not disappoint for me and I had it bad! I would try that before an anti depressant.

No luck with Effexor for hot flashes. Coming off it is a bitch.

Like you post......... but not the "bitch part" 👍

I was lucky or I was frozen....... after RPD and on Lupron/Casodex I had two or three days of mild hot flashes that disappeared. Ain't that a bitch?

I’m on the same treatment (Lupron/zytiga). Been using Sertraline for a while now and it’s helped. Has not completely eliminated the hot flashes though, but they’re more tolerable.
