Abiraterone Zytiga Major Price Jump! $$$$

Spyder54 profile image
43 Replies

just went to renew my monthly prescription of Abby Rader Rowan, and was told it had jumped from 160 per month to $1600 per month. Went to good RX and all the prices have quintupled or sextupled. Anyone have a clue why? Anyone know a better source for those of us on Medicare and supplemental health? Thanks, Mike.

Are you taking a full dose of 4 tablets? Maybe a good time to discuss with Dr taking 1 with food.

Abby Rader Rowan, ok I'm dumber than a 4 year old. Is that a replacement for Hustler magazine?

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

MarkCubancostplus online pharmacy: $90.50 for 90 250 mg.

Someone pointed out to me that that is an odd number because you take I believe for a day, but they should have a way of working that out. I hope that helps you.

There is a new version of Abiraterone ... micronized version that you can take with food and is more absorbable ( need only 500 mg daily)

Being a new incarnation, it is expensive. I wonder if the prices they gave you is for this new version

Professorgary profile image
Professorgary in reply tohopefull99

I need only 250mg daily with a 300 calorie breakfast.

Professorgary profile image
Professorgary in reply tohopefull99

Taking it with food makes it more absorbable. So they ma ke a version that is to be taken with food and raise the price? Many of us have been taking it with food and only taking 250 and doing quite well.

You could contact them and check which version they’re dispensing. The site doesn’t say.

My Oncologists office has me two 12 month grants. I have been on Zytiga/Abirateron for 24 months and have not paid a dime.

That’s super!

Price range in my area for the generic goes from $138 to $13,715 for 120 250 mg tablets.

Look into HealthWell Foundation they provide grants for medication and or Health insurance premiums. When I was on those meds They covered me 100%. Good Luck

We get my husband's at Costco. The Costco website still shows the price for members as $176.79 and the Good RX Safeway price shows as $227.99.

No idea. I just started on the generic version from the Marc Cuban Cost Plus Pharmacy for under $200/mo.

Since you are on Medicare now is the time to change drug plans if desired. I recently ran some scenarios and saw it as low as $70 per month for 90 pills ( I took 3/4 dose) . I am in Ohio I know every State can be different. Just started looking again. Wellcare Value Script Plan has no monthly premium and $545 deductible. Abiraterone at CVS is $729.42 for the year. Remember that is for 90 250 mg pills per month.

I'm looking hard at Wellcare Value Script as well. Are you in FL?

GoBucks profile image
GoBucks in reply todhccpa

No. Ohio, therefore GoBucks. My dilemma is that I am currently off all meds. I have to choose a plan for " just in case".

dhccpa profile image
dhccpa in reply toGoBucks

Well, I'm halfway in that situation. I have a pricey eye drop but am not (yet) on AA, but could start at any time. That plan seems to work well all around.

I'm going to meet with my Medicare guy and let him run everything on his computer.

I get Abiraterone and I am not yet on medicare but I was paying $1200 per month for the specialty pharmacy of my Health Insurance. I now go to QuickRx and pay $181 per month. They FedEx it to my house within two days. It's generic, not name brand. I am to get it today and hope that I do not find it has jumped as yours has.!

I just called them and the price has not changed.

Try going to medicare.gov and using their search and compare tools. It's open season so you could make a change if you find a cheaper option for your area.

With my evil Medicare Advantage plan, 😜

Abby Rader Rowan is $3 a month.

Prednisone, is $0 month.
