Radiation affecting white blood counts?

Good afternoon,

Hope all is well.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced low WBC count due to prostate cancer radiation alone?

Just researching many treatment options and wondering what pros/cons for each.

Thank you!

SBRT to the prostate stimulates leukocyte formation long-term.

I'm on a different type of radiation (lutetium (pluvicto)). Don't know about direct radiation (like SBRT/IMRT) but my white blood cell counts drop after treatment and then rebound. I've done 3/6 treatments and the counts are the lowest yet (1 week after). In my case not super low, but below reference range, and the doc thinks it is ok, but I'm keeping an eye on them (as well as the platelets) with an ever present eye on whether to continue treatment or not.

How successful has your Pluvicto been?

A week before the 3rd treatment bone + CT scans showed that the L2 met and some other areas of activity almost completely resolved and others "lower in activity" or stable (pelvis + ribs). Maybe its the Pluvicto or maybe its the ADT or maybe both. The outcomes from the PSMAddition trial I'm on will shed light on that. The nuclear med doc did think it was the Pluvicto as he wasn't expecting any changes in the mets (at least for the better).

congratulations that’s certainly good news. I get my fourth shot on the Eclipse trial tomorrow.

Good luck tomorrow!

One thing I forget to mention was regarding the 21 mm lesion on my L2. When I did the PSMA scan as part of the entrance exam for the PSMAddition trial (about 8 weeks after starting ADT), the lesion on my L2 was not marked as PSMA- avid (my pelvis and ribs were PSMA-avid). The L2 lesion was shown on the CT scan a few weeks before. Supposedly Pluvicto doesn't work on non-PSMA-avid lesions so food for thought why the L2 met resolved. Maybe my heavy (for me) squats played a role in bone health? I was warned not to lift weights because of risk for fracture....
