Good morning brothers, wondering if anyone has had bleeding prostate problems pass in urine after radiation? Doc tells me quite common after 6 or 7 years . Caused by weakening of blood vessels.

Radiation after effects
Yes. Very common. I think it is from sloughing off of scar tissue. Only a concern if it doesn't go away or the bleeding is copious.
For some reason there is a delayed reaction like this to radiation. It can also happen in the lower colon. I have something called radiation proctitis which manifests with rectal bleeding.Taking anti-coagulants, even mild ones like low-dose aspirin, can exacerbate it. Usually a little bleeding or occasional bleeding is not worrisome but as everyone has said if it is a lot or frequent, check it out.
Yes. Also the burnt, scarred rectal tissues can bleed and you may not see that. A stool guiac test will show it and a blood count should be done if you are losing blood. My brother had bladder cancer and somehow bled down to 2/3 normal hemoglobin without knowing it. Get it checked.
It definitely happens. Mine bled during and a year after SRT. I chalk it up to inexperienced RO . Lots of blood from damaged rectum close to anus. Colonoscopy found it. A mess! Looked like WWI trench warfare! (Lol) Radio-frequency ablation fixed it but it took a few months thereafter to totally stop bleeding. Ok now four years later.
Jeez, I am getting tired of reading about all this stuff to look forward too!
But, after the 5500cGy/20cycles.... my nocturia is much better; now it's only 1 or 2 times per night instead of 5.
Morning. Is this the first issue you have had? I’m about 3 months post radiation and everything has settled down. Now I feel nothing. The fatigue has begin to let up and close to pre radiation tiredness.
Hi Carlo, had my radiation about 6 years ago, this is first problem since then. As I said doc says it’s normal, other brothers have said they have had same condition. Sooo look for this 5 or 6 years down the road. Yes you will still be here then. Keep the faith, this is not fun but part of ageing. Bless you brother
To all who replied many thanks, so glad I belong to this forum. We are lucky to have each other.
I recall being told that I might have some blood in my bowel movements on occassion and was told to ignore / not worry about it (assumed it was temporary and relatively infrequent).
In terms of urination, I never passed blood - so if it happens for a few days only, as THEY mention, then I would expect it to end in due course (shortly).
Ongoing blood in the urine would raise a red flag for me .....
