Yikes. So now my MRI for sciatica reveals "sacral insufficiency fractures." Courtesy of Dr. Google, I understand what they are, and that they are typically seen in old ladies with osteoporosis (not so different from this 70-year-old man on ADT). But I also see that it's been know to occur in men or women following pelvic radiation, which I finished 4.5 months ago. I'll be seeing my orthopedist tomorrow (I got the MRI report early from the portal), but thought I'd check with you folks first. Have any of you been diagnosed with sacral insufficiency fractures?

Have you had a DEXA bone density scan to check for osteopenia or osteoporosis? Your MRI report makes me suspicious, and the ADT definitely can/will worsen your bone density. Many ADT men have bone strenghtener prescription to help with this. Discuss this possible scenario with your Doc.
I had same thing 2 months after radiation. I have nomal bone densities. Happened while playing 3 hours of pickelball. Took 5 months to completely heal. Had to stop playing pickelball. Started on Prolia. Now back to fill activities. Playing in pickelball tournament today.
Thanks, glad to know I'm not alone. Met with orthopedist yesterday, he says no big deal, will heal on its own, but sees what he thinks is radiation damage on MRI. Emailed RO and MO, both said will get back to me next week with options. Wondering if I might end ADT earlier than planned -- am currently 13 months in.
I had/have the same injury, and it was discovered as part of an MRI that diagnosed a compression fracture. Like you, I had pelvic radiation prior to that time. Like you, my orthopedist said no big deal and it would heal on its own. It's been over a year, so I hope they have healed but have not had a recent MRI to confirm.
Had the same thing occur in June. Dexa scan showed Osteoporosis so I'm starting a drug called reclast next week. Took two months to heal.
I just did the Reclast two weeks ago. Once a year shot. I have osteopenia
I had forgotten about this thread, which I started almost a year ago! Yes, like several of you, my Dexa scan showed osteopenia, and my doctors put me on Reclast, which I will get annually for 3 to 5 years. Whether it was the Reclast or just time and rest (my money's on Reclast), the bones healed within a couple of months, and I returned to full activity. To me, it was a miracle drug!
Yikes indeed! My husband has been having hip pain which we thought was sciatica, we’ll find out at appt with orthopedist this week.
