I have osteopenia but VERY close to osteoporosis (t=-2.4 last December and started

Orgovyx at that time). Surprisingly, BCBS did approve the drug. I'll be scheduling it soon. Two questions:

1) The SE are VERY SCARY when I read this: drugs.com/comments/denosuma...

But, then again, uneventful outcome folks are not likely to post. Sooo... what has been your SE experience?

2) Never had a subcutaneous shot so what's that like?

I've been on prolia (xgeva) for 5 years. So far no side effects. The shot is given in alternate arms, no problems.

are you every 30 days, or has your doc scaled back to 90 days? I was 2 years every 30 days, then scaled back to every 90 days, immediately suffered t-11 vertebral compression fracture. Doc says "unrelated" literature says otherwise!

I'm on a 90 day schedule. I also take 2 Caltrate every day.

Been on Xgeva for a year; no SE, injection is piece of cake, esp. compared to Lupron (which I get at same time).

I've had several Firmagon subcutaneous injections. At least for Firmagon, it is given in the abdomen, the nurse will grab the skin and make a fold. I iced the area for a few minutes before and did not feel the actual injection.

My wife developed loose teeth from Prolia so the endocrinologist switched her to Tymlos. Loose teeth are common with Prolia, apparently.

Prolia and xgeva are the same drug except the dosage is different, Prolia is a lower dose given once every 6 months. The injection is no big deal, depending on the individual some have no side effects from the drug and others have to stop taking it because of side effects. I developed a rash shortly after the third shot and stopped taking it as a result.

Hi. I have Zoladex injections subcutaneously in the abdomen every 3 months. They alternate the injection site (left/right) each time. Can cause bruising if nurse is less experienced. But overall no big deal.

I had osteoporosis two years ago which led to Prolia every six months. After taking Prolia for a year and also increasing Vitamin D3 to 5000 units per day, my bone density scan showed me improved, back down to osteopenia.

Update:

Well, had my first Prolia shot today. Was no big deal. She injected into the fatty tissue in my arm. Similar to a flu shot (hurt a bit more for the 5-sec. shot).
