Interestingly, these were written under the influence of Dilaudid for pain management.
Over rainbows of rushing thoughts
The Birds of Paradise come

of the burdens of life
shift a bit, and somehow seem
heavier this day.
He senses her anguish. and
rushes his thoughts and
his love to her.

it kinda made me laugh when you said you were using powerful dilaudid ( hydromorphone ) .. when you wrote these. There is a legion of poets - authors that have been …..uh ….. “ inspired “ to create when using opiates. Edgar Allan Poe , Stephen king, Truman Capote, Hemingway … bunches more. A lot of them.
Your intense love relationship with your life mate , soul mate, wife …is pretty strong in your poetry and when you know the back story of both of you having deadly cancer at the same time …. Your work is ever so much more poignant .
Possibly not obvious at a shallow glance, the interplay of shared sense of intense love and potential life lost and intense potential sense of love loss …… well it is quite the profound expression of a QOL issue from a whole different but intensely relevant perspective.
We don’t talk much, on the group , about our hurt… and family disasters …” significant other “ sorrow etc. …. all actively in the making . There was one that sticks in my mind a lot named Great_John. He barred his soul considerably on the group, it was tear jerking for me sometimes ( we all loved him ) … and another poet , Cisco99 , really laid out his heart about his own impending death. A couple of your pieces even made me tear up a bit. They glance off a situation I have here a bit.
It’s hard to just say , “ well ….we’ll be dead , we won’t know !!! our loved ones will somehow cope and carry the loss forward beyond us. I think it’s a topic that is so personal , powerful , and can be so intensely SAD …. that most here really don’t want to address it much, and surely not pubically.
Of course it’s best to “ address “ this topic with our medical care teams if we feel really depressed- hurt by our inevitable plight …. same with our family members , they may need professional assistance as well. There are great meds and counselors available to nearly all of us aPCa guys and gals. The same group that helps in hospice also helps , guys - families like us … outside hospice as well. Just ask our pcp’s or oncologist and they will provide.
Feels like your work cries out for expression and you do a good job of it. Dunno how this will hit others trying to suppress these thoughts ( people here attacked Cisco99 ) … still it’s QOL material , for sure.
