Peeing blood

I just got done with 40 of 44 radiation treatments. Still have a Prostrate. Peeing blood after. The nurse says its because I take baby aspirin. Sounds strange after 40 treatments to start having this now. I have been taking a baby aspirin for 8 years. Did anyone else have this happen?

Sounds like something to take up with your urologist and/or radiation onco. My RO had me take high strength ibuprofen 4 times a day in my final 2 weeks of RT.

Now I think I know why he did that:

Title. Combined antitumor effect of radiation and ibuprofen in human prostate carcinoma cells

Excerpt. Ibuprofen enhanced the radiation response of prostate cancer cells in all three in vitro models.

It's a common side effect of radiation (hematuria). Unless it's a lot of blood (blood in urine often colors it highly), it will eventually disappear. Here are side effects you can expect:

Aspirin stops blood from clotting, heed the nurses advice.

I was told in advance to stop fish oil supplements for the same reason.

In seeing minor side effects only now, after 24 of 33

3 months after completing 33 treatments I had a few bouts of hematuria. RO stated it’s normal. Worry when it happens years after radiation, not months after.

When it starts years after radiation, it is called Late Hemorrhagic Cystitis and clotting can shut down your bladder, forcing you to wear catheters for 4-5 days.

A year after my 32 radiation treatments I peed a massive blood pee (ie no urine just good old red blood) which was one of those ‘holy moly’ moments. Went to the ER and the good folks said, “ please pee in the bottle” as I’m not sure they believed me. Well, I showed them as I handed in the plastic pee bottle full of the same good old red blood. Eventually it slowed but my Urologist stuck a scope way up inside (not my idea of fun) and had an eyeball check inside my bladder and discovered that the radiation treatment had beaten up my bladder in a few spots. All of this resulted in having to have a bladder fulguration (once again, not my concept of fun) but it solved the bleeding issue. Although I was on Zoladex, I was not taking anything such as aspirin.

The only thing more frightening than meeting your ex-wife at a nude hootenanny is peeing blood....

Man, that can wake you up..............

If your are taking aspirin because your cardiologist said to, don't stop unless the cardiologist agrees. Mine won't let me stop.
