Are there any new helpful remedies to ease the discomfort of this neurological disorder?

I am into another round of chemotherapy, docetaxel and Carboplatin and would love to have minimal addition to the discomfort I already endure.

My remedy is Gabapentin (300mg) and Tylenol three times per day.

I didn't do so well in vitamin B1. Everyone responds differently to treatments.

Neurontin is usually given. Ice mittens and socks may help prevent it.

I asked my cancer center about icing, they never heard of it. I think they’re a bit behind. Neurontin, I will ask about. Thank you.

You can find them on Amazon. Bring a cooler with extra sets because they don't stay cold very long. Also bring an electric blanket to keep your core warm.

I used NatraCure mittens and socks. The mittens are especially good because they partially freeze so they absorb lots of heat. Still, get two sets for your double chemo.

talk with your mo. Ice during infushion really can help. I jut did round 6 with minimal neuropathy. Mayby lucky but maybe ice helps. Whats the harm so might as well do it

Or just bring along a cooler of ice bags (zip lock freezer bags work well) extra socks one set oversize. Put one sock on, then hold ice pack on sole/toes and pull on oversize sock to hold the ice pack. Hands just need vinyl gloves from treatment location and then hold ice bag to cool palms fingers during entire infusion

Does sometimes get a little chilly being on ice after an hour or so so dress accordingly

thank you for your reply, I ordered some ice gloves to be here for my next infusion next week. My feet are already in pretty bad shape so I don’t think I could help that much. Hopefully I can protect my hands some what.

Gabapentin up to 3 grams per day helps to reduce pain, burning and paresthesia. Pregabalin could be a more expensive option if Gabapentin does not work well.

MANY are on gabapentin . I ve refused it for now . My new mo just recommended Alfa lipoic acid 600 mgs per day . I’m starting that now and I’ll let you know? I’m happily not on any big pharma .. most are😎

My doc recommended vit B6 100mg TID & (maybe( has helped. I don't think alpha lipoic acid helped me. Acupuncture helped for a while & the improvement eventually faded.

Alpha lipoic acid is supposed to be good. The version you get from Lef.org is allegedly the best (because of chirality)

Vitamin B1 is supposed to be good as well.

If you are already having peripheral neuropathy from docetaxel then it should be discontinued, that is switched out to Cabazitaxel along with the Carboplatin. More docetaxel May make it much worse. Please discuss with the oncologist prior to next dose cycle.

I will check on this, I had Cabezataxel in the spring of 2022 for only 2 infusions. Maybe they will consider this to go along with carboplatin. Thank you for your suggestion.

careful pushing for the Cabezataxel until you must have it. My MO said it is harder on the bone morrow and once the bone morrow starts to fail then no more of any chemo and options become very limited
