Interesting article ccording to Cedars-sinai. Not sure if anyone has given some thought to this?

These patients got Vytorin (ezetimibe 10mg-simvastatin 40mg).

what I like about this study is that they are not claiming that its a particular statin that works but the lowering of cholesterol itself

Agree- some people have success lowering without the med. Would be great if that helped in some way!

Be careful though. Statins caused my ALT to spike.

yes, it is widely known that statins can adversely effect liver functions in a minority of patients. When one first is prescribed statins they are typically required to get bloodwork every three months to check liver functions.

If only! I started on Atorvastatin about 6 years ago and never had a single follow up blood test by the NHS - I had to arrange one myself eventually.

Hope this study holds up. I recently (3 months ago) started Repathin, a monoclonal antibody that reduced cholesterol and especially LDL dramatically!

I reduced my cholesterol and LDL (both of which were elevated, especially LDL) down to 113 and 29 respectfully. Also my PSA has been between 0.16 and 0.18 ever since. Before then it increased from 0.03 to 0.16 in one month. Of course, I'm hoping for a slow increase over a year or more so that I can avoid resuming any treatment.

Repatha is a PCSK9 inhibitor that is nearly twice as effective as maximal dose statins at reducing LDL-C and Apo-B. They are breakthrough drugs for profoundly reducing CV risk, except for their expense. I am very interested in seeing how they may affect PC progression.

I am following my PSA monthly. I'll post again in a few months to report on progression. In the past, when I recurred (and this has happened 4 times) the PSA doubling time was quite short -- around 20-30 days. This time is very different.

Four + years now, uninterrupted Atorvastatin 20 mg + Ezetimibe 10 mg, my ALT has been ranging within11-21 (normal ranges 5-50 first lab, 11-43 second). The liver detox capability of the European Milk Thistle that I take along, may be providing some positive contribution to this.
