Off Abiraterone ?

When I started chemo Abiraterone was discontinued. A recent post suggested that lowering T is even more important if castrate resistant. So why was Abiraterone discontinued?

I have an infusion and appointment with substitute MO tomorrow and will try to remember to ask this but would like the opinion of members of this group.

Also, due to weather (snowed in) my infusion (number 6 I think) was delayed by a couple of weeks. I was expecting that this would give my PSA time to stabilize and hopefully go down but it has gone up slightly from about 8.4 to 8.8. Does this mean anything or is it still too early to tell?

I think your PSA value did rise while you took Abiraterone. Therefore the therapy was changed to a chemo. You can now observe for some time or add e.g. enzalutamide. Or see if you can get Pluvicto.

After Chemotherapy my PSA ticked up slightly above its lowest point while getting infusions. Then I started Abiraterone and it dropped to undetectable. I was denovo HS with high volume bone metastasis and Gleason 9-10. Sounds like your situation is different, but the PSA could perhaps drop back to its previous low or lower. Is your MO considering Xtandi for you now? Some get a response from it after Abi has failed.

8.4 and 8.8 are the same value. Your PSA is stable.

Have the last treatment wait around 6 weeks to measure PSA and if it is increasing you could discuss doing enza or daro or pluvicto. You should request Provenge a vaccine which has shown to improve overall survival.

Effect of chemo can actually increase PSA as cancer cells are dying and up in the blood, although your two values are statically equal

did you get an answer from MO? After 1 cycle of Docetaxel, I was taken off Abiraterone to help manage liver enzymes. I’ve finished 3 cycles and enzymes have stabilized, but still on Abiraterone vacation. Did the MO give you any idea how the change impacts survival rate?

Hello Spencoid2,

From the onset, I did chemo by Taxo drug for 6 cycles. At the same time I was still taking Xtandi 120 mg every day. My PSA dropped from 117 to 5. The side effects were hair loss, and general fatigue. Right now I am on Lupron every 4 months, Xgiva every 4 months, Xtandi 120 mg every day. My PSA has come down to 0.09. My PSA has been like this for over one year. I hope this is helpful to you.
