Swineholts = German surname.....

I think you meant "Schweinehund" = PigDog. Schweine = pig. Hund = dog (German)...

That isn’t right! It should always be free ! Thanks for the pressure “ big pharma”! They need the money , more than you do! Yah right! Good luck jumping this hurdle ! 👍

It has been generic for nearly 5 years. There are many generic competitors on the market, which has driven the price down.

J&J is one of my least favorite pharma companies, but from a business standpoint, I would think that the vast majority of name brand scripts filled today are from their free program. I am rather surprised they kept giving it away as long as they did.

And I really am not a fan of that company, but they have kept the program going long after many would have.

The Med D plans need to step up and lower their tier. My suggestion would be to initiate a tier exception, your doctor can help with that, and you should be able to get a lower tier along with a lower copay. The Med D plans are pretty good at rubber stamping those tier exception requests. It’s definitely worth a try!

Are you talking about Medicare Plan D. Also can you elaborate on this "tier exception" requests? Thanks

Sure! These happen every day, but the patient needs to ask for it. Here is an explanation directly from Medicare:

Another explanation:

Same happened to me. Since our household income is low (under $68,000) I might get it for free. I believed that it is going through the Pan foundation. Hope this helps you.

Check out scripto.com for low AA prices (after you joinup).

look into the generic, abiraterone. Sometimes even cheaper not using your insurance but a plan like GoodRx. Also you can read about taking one pill with low-fat breakfast instead of four on empty stomach

Check out Cost Plus Drug Company (owned by Mark Cuban) - we are getting generic there for about $40 for a month's worth of 250mg/day. costplusdrugs.com/

I’m in the same situation. Big bummer. Now getting generic Abiraterone from DiRx. They send it to me, 3 month supply for $432

Yes, we were informed in November that the J&J program would end December 2022

J&J sent out a letter in December announcing their decision to cancel their Grant Program. At the same time it was announced J&J just completed their best year EVER. I am fortunate, my hospital Oncology Pharmacy was able to get me a grant with another agency. MYONCO360.

After deductible with AARP Walgreens Drug plan, I pay $93 / month

Gearhead profile image
Gearhead in reply toHuzzah1

Are you sure this isn't your copay for months late in the calendar year, after you have gone through the initial Part D tiers earlier in the year with much higher copays?

I think it's hard to compare specific drug costs with part D because how fast you go through the tiers depends on what other drugs yoy are taking.

Huzzah1 profile image
Huzzah1 in reply toGearhead

Yes, deductible is $350. Then my monthly cost is $93. I just picked up a 90 day supply for $279.

Do you actually get your abiraterone from Walgreens? I also have AARP United Healthcare Walgreens, and my plan requires me to obtain my abiraterone through Optum, which delivers via UPS or Fed Ex. I think Optum is owned by United healthcare.

I get it at the local pharmacy. When supply got tight, the manager was able to find some for me and put a few months worth in the safe for me. It’s nice having a relationship with an actual person.

wow that’s lucky! I agree with you. I hate robots! Hope this generic is good. They usually aren’t finally got my psa from 23 six years ago to below zero last two months. And I took six not four pills a day. When I was taking four my psa started riring from 2.6. Got it back down to just above zero in a month! Good luck brother!

I've been given NOVADOZ brand. My PSA dropped from a high of 3.9 when diagnosed to 1 within 1 month. It's been undetectable for 7 months now.

Yes, i was told the same thing. I was on Erleada for awhile and my PSA started a slow rise. My doctor resubmitted my results using Erleada, Long story short i am now back on Zytiga

They do have a cap per year, so that may be the limiting factor.

Hey Capt! It’s like the soup nazi saying “ no more soup for you “! Except without this soup you could die . It’s bs . I remember once the blue cross blue shield didn’t get our payment . I went for my Lupron shot and was told $6700 ? Wtf? Who could pay that? Thankfully wife got on the phone and they cleared it . We were sweating bullets . Good luck getting what you need now! All c treatment should be free . Imho 😎✌️

yes I believe it’s a crime to make money off of people with a possibly terminal condition like cancer. Especially when these companies make millions on there other established products ! Guess you play the guitar, been a bass player for fifty one years but since this cancer I’m,too weak to play my 62 Jazz. Have a huge collection of vintage guitars I have to sell. Really nice stuff. Like a 1964 true vintage Gibson J 45 cherry burst. With only a few hours of playwear on it, me. It’s so perfect I’m afraid to play it so I play my 67 and 1970 d 28 instead. If you know anyone looking for vintage quality stuff. Dmsavini@yahoo.com. Good luck Slim!

in reply toCaptsquid2u

Sir, if you’re stage#4 like me , it is terminal . No cure . We buy time . The Time is now to sell art and anything collectible before these markets crash! 64 Gipson? Wowza! How about selling on line? There must be on line auctions .but you pay a fee?. Take it easy Capt! ✌️😎

yes that happened to my husband when Johnson & Johnson stopped providing. His oncologist at Emory ( Atlanta) had their pharmacy research and they found the drug for $35 month. If yo haven’t already done so ask your oncologist for assistance. Also Mark Cuban’s new drug company CostPlus now has that drug on the list. Unfortunately sometimes they run out of drugs they can provide at low costs and I heard recently they couldn’t supply Zytiga but it’s worth checking again. Best of luck
