I signed up for a 28 mile hike in Big Bear in May, supporting Make A Wish.
So, knowing that, I did an osso buco, but not with veal (too much $/not the babies! ) to replenish protein. More like a stew as I threw in carrots, celery, onions, & turnips
Had whole wheat penne with Pecorino Romano on it
And the bone marrow was delish🍖😋
Oh, I did 12 miles and it hailed on me the last mile. I broke Fast at mile 5
that looks exactly like the fish dish I was talking about from Toledos …. Boy is that delicious. It takes a while to sit and remove the meat but that’s a good thing in a restaurant when you are socializing and enjoying those Dos Equis. 😁😁😁
a lot of people now also use one of those crock pots to cook heavy meats like roast. Put it on before you leave for work and it ready when you get back. Large cookers used to be a standard kitchen appliance back in the 40s -50s and later. You could cook an entire meal in it …. Like roast and use it to sterilize and seal your canning jars too. They had that little singing valve on top that squired steam now and then.
I did salt/pepper floured it and pan seared with butter and olive oil. Then did the veggies, deglazed the pan with a cup of red wine and put all the goodness into the crock pot with beef broth and let it go low for 8 hrs whilst I did my training hike
Nice looking fall off the bone veal being cooked like that. Yum. Wheat Penne is my wife's go to when not using asian noodles.
There's a lot of small american towns. Most have a uniqueness. Tehachapi seems to definitely fit that bill with a known history and apparently caring, nice community vibe people there. Mixed cultures living together.
That history of Avelino Martinez is fascinating bit you wouldn't think of if it wasn't documented. Ironic he has some Chinese heritage as do you and you ended up there.
So weird that back then Indian, Mexican, and Chinese genes got mixed together. Chinese mainly from Guangdong, like my Gparents, were working on the railroad, all the live long day in like 1850s courthousenews.com/tehachap...
I read about them and the Transcon railroads in this great book
Just love my lil town, been up here since 1998. They showed their love/generosity with the GoFundMe for that 14 yr old killed, raising 28k. And then the dozens of Christmas gifts that got distributed by the Knights of Columbus
I tell pts that it's like Mayberry at 4000ft, and it's a "Shit Howdy" kinda place
He’s an Indiana boy. Though not real popular here lately. Politics gets in the way of everything. Lol. He used to put on a great show but, haven’t seen him in years.
The closest I came to Guangdong was being in Hong Kong for a few days in the 70's.
About 8 years ago I was in Shenyang near the North Korean border for a week (Sunday thru Sunday). It was minus 40 F when I arrived at the airport and was driven in a factory work van to my hotel around 11:00 P.M. that first day I arrived. Long story. It was yet another printing press installed by me in the world. Seems unbelievable now.
Made my grandma’s chocolate fudge tonight to send to school with my son tomorrow for teacher treats. I’ll sample one little piece once it’s set. Enjoyed the pictures from your adventure.
Yea, I missed it too, but my excuse was protein for my old tired legs and the Beat Bobby Flay episode that I osso buco as the challenge.
Oh, Mahalo 🤙Mandi, QoLing is my second vocation now, it gives me pleasure as I hope it does for y'all💙
Got a concert to see this Sat, 23 yr old Samara Joy who just won two Grammys. Her velvet smooth Jazz sound harkens back to Ella, Sarah and Billie youtu.be/1Lh9nxOwMMo
Hope all is well with you Sis and Thank you for staying on HU
I’m on couple other boards here for my liver disease, so I’ll hang around a bit. Probably will check in less as the weather improves here in the frigid Midwest. It’s 50 today, a bit of a heat wave so I’m going spend some time in the fresh air. Enjoy the show, she is AMAZING.
That sound very interesting to me, Randy. The hike, but also osobuco! 28 miles in one day would be too far for me now. But quite doable for an overnight 2-day. Did about 30 miles in two day backpack on the JMT last Summer. this year planning on the most attractive sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail.
BTW, I’m also making handmade fresh pasta these days, but still not yet perfected. And also dialing in the perfect pasta carbonara. And I make huge batches of (pork shoulder plus beef) chili and also meat-rich bolognese sauce and freeze several meals of each.
Yea, a lady told me about on Facebook to support Make A Wish for the kiddos, we have to raise $2500. So, it's not a race, and on the PCT in Big Bear this May. It should be gorgeous up there💙 We get meals, and hotels included too.
Oh, I did the Tahoe Marathon in 2008, so beautiful up there. Some crazy runners do the entire perimeter of Lake Tahoe, that's 72 miles!!!
I've been there several times and there is that Christmas store in town, I went in with GF at the time and told the owner my PCa saga, then went back year later to say Hey and show that I ain't gone yet. So this May, I'll go again and surprise the owner yelp.com/biz/a-christmas-st...
