Have had 2 sets spinal shots of steroids' to try and relieve pinched nerve in L-4&5. Has definitely been distracting. Still unable to lift right toes and my foot flops a little when I walk but making progress.
.
Coco and I have also been fostering a 5 month old Jack Russell Terrier with some medical issues. She has been with us 10 days so far and I have taught her to sit and shake. I am now working on STAY! much more challenging command concept to get an animal to understand but essential for her to know.
.
The above has kept me completely distracted from thinking about my cancer and other issues.
.
Not sure who is benefiting more "Jackie" or Me. 😎

An Mri confirmed that my husband had bone mets compromising his spinal cord. He just finished 10 days of radiation to lumbar and thoracic areas. The radiation has helped his pain to a level to where he can finally do some walking. Good luck to you! Love your little foster pup. We have fostered many dogs in the past!
i can see that. Nina steels my boots and prances by me with one in her mouth. I have to trade a higher value toy or treat to get it back. It’s their way of playing i got something you want
"The above has kept me completely distracted from thinking about my cancer and other issues." <<<< That right there is one of several reasons I like your posts. Great attitude. I hope you get full relief with the next injection!
awwwwww …. So cute . Our “ good boys “ are our best friends and it’s “ comfort dogs “ that are used as therapy in hospitals nation wide for a good reason. The love from our fuzzy buddies can fill a pretty big hole in our hearts, and make us feel great.
What takes your mind off “ things “ better than that fuzzy huggy in your lap ?
Someone should start a “ comfort dogs for croakers “ humanitarian activity …. Who needs them more than us. ( ok , yes cats too yayahahahaya ) .
This is a quality QOL angle I never thought of. Good post.
Awesome, what a cutie! Fostering is so rewarding, but hard to give them back. If you guys are ever interested in transport, it’s Tuesday afternoons. I’m not local anymore but I could you the info. They are trying to replace my guy still!
Here’s my creature. Bella. She’s tough stuff. 3 ACL reconstructions, 9 years young.
Some days better than others. Try to remind myself how lucky we were. Catching up on all my health junk now that I’m back in Indiana so that’s keeping me busy. One foot in front of the other, but being home has its challenges. Signed up for a couple 5k walk/runs starting in the Spring. I’m a walker… not a runner! Grief, like life, is a journey.💞
Boy, that’s the truth. She throws herself up down and around like a puppy rather than an old gal with bum knees. Million dollar mutt we call her. She is sure a lovebug though. Wouldn’t hurt a soul… except those pesky stray cats that taunt her from the other side of the fence. 😂
She had mange which we fixed with special shampoo and baths. She also has worms and she is recovering from spay surgery. Another pill for something else that I can't recall.
Exchange our Love with dog and other animals is extremly beneficary to our health of body and special soul. In order not to be speciest (similar to nacist but regarding animals) extend your love to other animals like birds, calfs, pigs, goats, cows, chickens, fish...
Why eat some and pet others?
GO VEGAN it is also exelent for your phisical and mental health.
Maybe try some deep myofascial work along the sciatic especially in the buttock. Piriformis syndrome is way common. There are good, people out there who might help most especially if shots don'T!!!
If I didn’t have these 2 Lady and Rusty both border collies I would very rarely laugh. Everyday is a joy and without them life would be a little more of a challenge.
Thanks for sharing the puppy love, Scout. But I am more concerned with your foot drop / toe raising loss that indicates serious compression of L5 motor nerve if I recall correctly. That requires surgical decompression so it does not become permanent. Not just steroid shots. Can you get in to a good spine surgeon, orthopedic or neurosurgeon?
laparoscope is for access / surgery in abdomen and pelvis. The equivalent for spine is microscopic decompression. Find someone who does those frequently call neurosurgery practices and ask if they have someone who does those. Some orthopedist spine specialists also. Mine was done in Monterey CA by an orthopedist who just does microscopic spine surgeries. Don’t delay too long looking.
What I learned from interviewing 7 ROs before my decision is that finding the best takes some time.
Looking for the guy who has done the most and is very well thought of by his peers.
Catch 22:
Looks like recovery is going to be 6 months which creates a problem as I need to resume my exercise program during ADT (as much a 10 more months) to prevent muscle and bone loss.
The longer the motor or sensory nerve is compressed, the more likely the impairment is permanent and to a higher degree. So if you find someone who is really quite good and experienced, I would get off there, rather than a prolonged search for “the best” which is theoretical can subjective at that level. Just sayin, Scout. Gotta dance.
she is beautiful. I watch a youtuber called forestry forest and he goes around in his 4wheel drive van hiking US and Canadian Rockies and he has a jack russel puppy that is really cute and goes on all his hikes to the top of these snow capped peeks. The Russel does amazing, so athletic.
The best dog I ever had was a rescue Jack Russell (approx 5 years old).
We live in the country and he loved the outdoors so he could burn off all of his excess energy, He was so smart that he learned commands quickly, and I walked him around the perimeter of our property a couple of times, and never knew him to stray afterwards. Also, he was a fantastic hiking companion. When he died it was a couple of years before I had any desire for another dog. In the market now for one that will enjoy camping, hikes, being caught in the rain, and pina coladas.
Sounds like you’re Both benefiting from the puppy love. I got lulu after dx ..She’s now 6 and a big part of my daily joy. Between coco and the pup, you’re covered! Good luck on
Distraction is good. Sorry to hear about the back. I seems that every 5 years I end up getting a series of 3 shots in my back. L3/L4. Jack Russell Terrier are smart dogs. Have fun!
