Excessive calcium may increase the risk of cancer. I have not seen any reports that taking a simple calcium supplement increases the risk of cancer or makes any cancer you may already have worse.

Here is an article I found on VIT D3 and its use...I take VIT D3 125 MGG plus K2 f100 mg and have done so for the last 1 1/2 years post RP and sRT.

Hello,

I have been taking Calcium (with Magnesium) and Vitamin D twice a day for nearly ten years. At diagnosis my PCa had metastasized into my bones from my neck to my knees. I take these two supplements along with a maintenance dose of Prolia (aka Xgeva) for bone strength and to prevent a skeletal related event (SRE). So far no problems. I would follow your medical oncologist’s advice.

I've been on a similar regimen since May 2019, and still suffered a Thoracic vertebral fracture a few months back.

I take only 900 calcium per my nat doc . He doesn’t like to over calcify …D-3 w/ k-2 , boron , magnesium complex is good . I’m probably the only one here also taking strontium for bone health per this nat dr . He knows! I follow! 🤙🏽

No, but it's the best we have. Are you willing to risk it?

my wife’s nephrologist is very anti-calcium supplementation. He says in small amounts it just passes through the system without value. In larger amounts, he states that it can be very harmful. He’s written a chapter on this in a medical text on kidney disease.

Explorer08,

Eating the foods that are a good source of calcium and certain exercises such as running or even a brisk walk on a surface which transmits small shocks through the skeletal system as the feet contact the ground causes the body to deposit available calcium in the bones rather than excrete it. Personal trainers know this as "Form Follows Function.

Dr. Ruth Heidrich, a strict vegan whose only supplement is B12 had excellent bone density results. In her 80's she completed an Iron Man! She is a runner. There is quite a bit of calcium in many vegetables.

Weight bearing exercises are also helpful especially with challenging weights. Bands also provide the same stimulus.

A nephrologist is an expert at their profession. With the demands on their time spent on their education and later practice, I doubt that they have even heard of "Form Follows Function".

The immune system's health and bone marrow are closely associated. If an activity stimulates skeletal health, why not expect a synergy with the bone marrow as well?

Doctors reflexively prescribe low dose supplementation of vitamin D and calcium for bone health, with no proof it does anything unless your levels are known to be low.

Larger doses are taken in the belief that more is better, which is definitely not proven to help and may well be harmful, as noted.

On the other hand, weigh bearing exercise is proven to preserve bone health, is effective, safe and has a kaleidoscope of other positive effects.

Hopefully for you, being ‘very active’ includes resistance training.

I'm certainly resistant to exercise.

There's a better supplement for bone health than calcium -- vitamin K2. I don't take a calcium supplement.

I have never heard that, sounds absurd. FWIW, I took 1200mg calcium daily with 25mg D3 + 90mg calcium until my calcium went slightly high and I stopped taking the calcium. Strengthening bones is extremely important so couple calcium with weight-bearing exercises. Best of luck.

Hello Alperk,

As a nutritionist, i usually recommend food to heal.

It is your choice, but you may want to start with calcium rich food -and see it that helps.

Nuts, Baked potatoes with the skin, greens, beans beets. and more

For vitamin D a person fighting a disease, does well to have a blood test to determine what his NG/ml are. generally, 60 -80 is good when fighting a disease. My PC hubby had asked and asked for a vit d4 test and they refused......so he paid out of pocket and found what his nanograms per milliliter were,,,,,,,,,,,,ng.ml

You might do fine with eating a handful of nuts each morning

Please let me know what your think🥦🦋
