I have been having shooting pains at night from a bruise to my hip. Like sciatica. Have not been able to sleep at night for last 4 nights. MO suggested Tramadol may help. Looks like it only becomes addictive after long term use. Severe pain goes away during daytime.

You won’t get into any problems with a Tramadol at night, Scout. But why not consider celecoxib 200mg twice daily, of 400mg once, as a baseline and you may not need it. This will reduce overall inflammation and shows benefit as an adjunct for APC. And synergistic with bone protective regimens as was shown in a combination RCT with Zometa.
hey buddy. Tramadol is a great next step up from nsaids , being a morphine equivalent of .1 of morphine . If that works for you , it’s better than jumping right into the opiates like morphine or 1:1 Vicodin.
Tramadol is a partial mu agonist. Full mu agonists include heroin, morphine, oxycodone, codeine, fentanyl. It was originally marketed as non- addictive. Very short term use is safe and unlikely to cause problems. Longer term /higher dose use might result in withdrawal symptoms when it is stopped.
I will suggest taking an Epsom salt bath in the evening. I take one 3x a week, sometimes 4-5 x a week with 2 cups of Dr. Teals Pure Epsom Soaking Solution which also contains Black Elderberry and Vitamin D3...
I make the water as hot as I can stand it and fill the tub to max, just below the overflow drain and settle in. The longer the better.... Today I started early and had an hours soak time. I then shower rinse and let me tell you, I used to have sleep issues as well as pain. I've used tramadol, cannabis, Xanax, Ambien and though they helped, nothing gave me complete relief from both issues until I started the hot Epsom baths.
Once out of the tub, I feel like I had a tranquilizer, I sleep through the night and have zero pain...
In fact, I just got out of tub now and feel so tranquil ....I'm off to bed.., I don't think the doctors have any faith in this sort of stuff....
Here's what I use and where I get it:
Dr Teal's Pure Epsom Salt Soak, Black Elderberry with Vitamin D, 3 lbs a.co/d/fgmA2Qh
Tramadol did not work last night so I took the salt bath. I only had pink salt but When I got out I was completely pain free and slept for a couple of hours, unfortunately pain returned after a couple of hours.
I dunno why you don’t ask your pcp for basic Vicodin 5s and break it at the line for a 2.5 …. Then use your little ( free from your pharmacy ) pill slicer box and cut the halves into quarters ,….to start with. That gives you about 1 1/8 mg . Try the 1 1/8s , then the 2.5 half Vicodin 5 , full 5 etc. until you get the basic pain subdued.
I won’t tell you how to get real opiate pain management OTC here publicly on the group, but you can pm me for the info when you want / need it. Natural OTC opiates are available , commonly, nearly everywhere. Prescription opiates are the best, most reliable type tho.
I used Tramadol after each of my 4 joint replacements. Left me “hungover”. Try Dolased Forte 30mg of codeine or even Dolased with just 10mg codeine. When my pain is intense at night the forte works pretty quickly and I get 4+ hours rest.
Tramadol is definitely on the low end of the opioid spectrum. It's often used for nueropathy pain. A diabetic friend of mine used it for that, but tells me cannabis is the best in a 1:1 TCH/CBD ratio. Another thing about about Tramadol is that it is a Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor so it does increase your seratonin levels.
I've used a similar drug, Tapentadol before and that works well. With a MME of .4 it's stronger than Tramadol (.1MME), but still weaker than Hydrocodone (Norco/Vicodin). It also is not a Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor like Tramadol.
Of course the very very best is Fuckitdol. The name says it all.
Yes, I agree with DSGF, Epson Salts works wonderfully well. You can purchase it at the drug store. I have the Lavender scent and it too is relaxing. I also use magnesium in a gel and rub it on my pain areas. Don't know it that would be stong enough for you but maybe the combo of the hot baths with ES and magnesium gel mgith help? I hope so. 🌹🍏🦚
I don't use it much anymore but it is totally non-addictive to me anyway. My understanding is that it went from not controlled to schedule IV because it acquired street value. Why I don't know because it pretty much sucks as a recreational drug.
I stopped using it because of the grogginess in the morning and because my daily pain level was nullified by hip replacement and recovery from same. My daily and nightly aches and pains are manageable otherwise.
Tramadol did nothing for my lower back pain, I went back to ibuprofen. When I reported that to the PA, she said, "Yeah, tramadol is sometimes called 'trama-don't.'" The doctor switched me to meloxicam, and that worked very well for me, a big relief.
Tramadol is pretty much the most lightweight of the commonly prescribed opiate family, but that has little to do with addictive properties. If you are so inclined they can be plenty addictive. Like all opiates tolerance and other sides can be an issue. That said most can take it safely.
The real problem is it’s so weak there are a host of things that work as well or better. I like the sound of the hot bath recipe so much I’m going to try it on my arthritis. I’m sure you’ll find a good solution!
If cause is truly temporary bruise....do whatever it takes to avoid sleeping on that side.... a pillow wall has helped me for some temporary pain problem...for me very difficult to sleep on back...sleep on good hip can't hurt 👍 ?
