my husband has been diagnosed 3 days ago with prostate cancer, we are very much up in the air at the moment still numb, he’s been told he has it in both left and right lobe, left grade 1 3+3. And right grade 2 3+4 , he was told there was 3 ways of dealing with it, firstly active surveillance ( as it’s contained) or radiotherapy or surgery which he mentioned robotic, and that was it, and then told we would be having blood test in 12 weeks . Any advice

newly diagnosed prostate cancer
This is no advanced prostate cancer. In this forum, we would all prefer to have a cancer like this. This cancer will not kill your husband, maybe in 30 years.
Your doctor is right. You can do active surveillance and decide for surgery or radiation in the coming years. If you prefer to "do something" you can ask him for surgery or radiation.
Eternity6, that is crummy news for sure. Kudos to you for starting to learn about the disease and understanding your options, which at this point, are many.
The good news is he is, very, curable. So breathe in and out. I do not know alot about active surveillance (another term for watching the disease progression with frequent biopsies/scans/blood work) but having a “4” anywhere in a biopsy is something that normally requires some definitive action (surgery/radiation) on your part. Remember that a biopsy only samples a tiny tiny fraction of the prostate.
This particular forum has many men who are alot further along in their disease (mostly stage 4), sometimes diagnosed with psa’s in the hundreds or even thousands.
When I was first diagnosed I found a ton of useful information here
healingwell.com/community/d...
There are guys there who are excellent at helping the newly diagnosed, although i am sure others here will also lend a helping hand.
There is also another forum here on healthunlocked that has alot of guys in the same boat as you

Prostate Cancer Research Institute has some great educational videos on youtube
Life is precious. Congrats again on finding it early. Very very beatable.
Thank you so very much I will look at the links you have mentioned
Now is the time to start educating yourselves to the different options you have. I found the patient guides and guidelines from the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN, nccn.org) to be very helpful when I was first diagnosed.
I hope you will not make any decisions for 3 months. This kind of prostate cancer is typically very slow growing, and you should take time to let the "numbness" wear off so you can make a more rational decision.
If they are offering active surveillance, that is the first choice to consider. It probably means there was very little Gleason 3+4. It entails having an multiparametric MRI-targeted biopsy within a year to confirm it. In the longest running trial of active surveillance in North America, over half have not had to have any kind of treatment in 20 years so far.
Thank you

Active Surveillance is an option; HOWEVER, a priority at this moment IMO is to request a 2nd opinion from *Dr. Jonathan Epstein at Johns Hopkins.* ALSO as T_A mentioned is to make sure any future biopsies be multiparametric MRI-targeted biopsy and I would add of the Trans perineal Method and NOT TRUS. The TRUS method is OLD SCHOOL and very-VERY little of the prostate is biopsied often missing higher grade Gleason Score PCa.
To research then RESEARCH SOME MORE is an excellent suggestion since KNOWLEDGE is POWER and being a Advocate for your husband is one of the GREATEST ACTIONS a partner can undertake. My wife of 49 years might be a PITA at times butt 😀she loves me and I her (72nd birthday yesterday) and we are in this detour in life together each riding shotgun for the other.
Keep posting and good luuck.
There is another great forum on this site that is for prostate cancer that is not advanced- I'm wondering if you would get better knowledge there for your husband's diagnosis? So sorry that your husband has received this diagnosis. Any cancer diagnosis is devastating to hear💙
Thank you I will try and find it
I would echo what Tall Allen and Addictedtocycling said
go slowly but educate yourselves. see my profile for my journey
You're very fortunate. Prostate cancer contained in the prostate can be cured either by radiation or prostate removal. Carefully consider your options and cure it.
I would echo what addicted2cycling said and get second opinion from Dr. Epstein at Johns Hopkins. He upgraded my husband’s Gleason score. That doesn’t necessarily mean your husband will be upgraded, but an accurate Gleason score is a vital part of the diagnostic process. Dr. Epstein is a world expert in this area.
