My weekend of Art and Music.

Hey gang, another edition of the "life's too short to stay home" episode. Packed quite a bit in. On Friday, I took off a 1/2 day and drove down to the OC.

Friday night - Cole Swindell, country singer, at the Pacific Amphitheater with Honey County on 1st. I've recently been into Country music :-). It was a rockin' great time esp with a Stella Artois beer

I apologize for the shaky videos :-(

Sat am, I went to see my 87 yr old Aunt down in Irvine. to check on her and see if she needed me to take her grocery shopping. We made a playdate for 09/02

Saturday afternoon I went to the Huntington Botanical Gardens and Art Gallery. I didn't realize that they had Gainsborough's "The Blue Boy" there!

Later that day I drove to the Redondo pier initially to have crab/oysters, but the price was outrageous, and with dysgeusia from Chemo, it wasn't worth it. But wait there's more, there was a rock cover band on the Pier, so I stayed for that and had a Red Trolley Ale. They covered Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Hendrix, Free (Alright Now), Aretha, and the Stones

Saw Top Gun Maverick in Long Beach, CA and afterwards did a Tour de LB with a 5k around the marina

Just such a Blast at those venues! Then Sunday night I saw "Hadestown" a musical take on the tragic love story between Orpheus/Eurydice and Hades/Persephone

I have Cabazitaxel #14 this Friday and will fast from Weds on. Still awaiting darn Kaiser PSMA approval

GO Randy! Did not realize you are getting chemo now. Be Well.

Following your lead Coco and I went dancing Fri. nite at a new club , Sat. at an old favorite and Sunday to an outdoor concert in the park where a great cover band played the music of Frankie Valli.

Yea, when I switched MOs from Kaiser to AIS, the new one added 6 more Cabazitaxels to the 6 sch'd, and has added 6 more to hit 18 the week before Turkey Day. Glad you went out dancing! That's awesome about the Frankie Valli cover band.

A few years ago I took my daughter to see Jersey Boys in NYC

The 4 C Notes are an awesome cover band 4 singers and a 4 piece band behind them they are from Chicagoland but travel the world on tour. The movie version of Jersey Boys is my favorite... love the closing scene when the whole cast is dancing in the street and singing the theme song.

Yup. 50 yrs ago when I lived in Pasadena, I'd bicycle down to the Huntington museum and gardens regularly. That and hiking up into the San Gabes were some of my favorite activities. As a young whippersnapper, I had never heard of Blue Boy, but it certainly caught my eye the first time I saw it. Lots of other interesting art there, too.

Interesting how this conversation evolved and then circled back, I took my Granddaughter Lola to the Huntington Garden for the High Tea experience when she turned 10. It was such a lovely experience I made her promise to return with me on her Sweet 16th Birthday for another tea party. Knowing full well by then she would have guys closer to her age wanting to take her out for her Birthday. She will be 16 next year! my how time flies when you are having fun.

Oh how funny and awesome about that. That's so wonderful, and that's another great reason to post my adventures, to spark a conversation, and/or a memory. Also to show that life is out there, and we gotta "just do it" . Grab the brass ring, go for the gusto, stop and smell the roses, Carpe diem et al

Yes! My whole purpose of my recent posts is to have HU members see that I'm not totally overwhelmed with the d*mn PCa. I'm just experiencing as much Life as I can now, before I'm not able in the future.

What an amazing weekend, Dockam, and what initiative. You are doing it right. I also love country music. Had a band as a youth and my older brother spent most of his life in Nashville as a singer and recording engineer. Recently inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Stay strong.

"Tour de LB", ha, now that was funny. Glad you saw Huntington Gardens-- one of the best things in LA. Good tip on hitting Redondo B pier, thx!

dockam profile image
dockam in reply to timotur

Mahalo for the Huntington tip, been in LA since 1975, and never had gone there before. I sometimes tell my new patients at their dental exam appt that I'm gonna do a "Tour de Teeth".That was such a serendipitous find, on my oyster/crab quest, to see that they had free Summer concerts on the Redondo Pier.
