When to take Zytiga?

I am just beginning Zytiga. I take meds for diabetes and A-Fib. Can anyone tell me how you incorporated Zytiga into your daily medication regime?

Sure, when I first started I’d wait till 2 hours after breakfast and made sure to let an hour pass before lunch. Pretty easy to keep that schedule. Now, however, I take in the early morning hours when I get up to pee. Say like 4:30AM. That pretty much insures it’s been at least two hours since I last ate and one hour before breakfast.

my hubby does the same--sometime in the middle of the night during bathroom break

I pretty much follow 6357axbz's routine for the reasons he stated. I generally have to get up and pee twice during the night. I take my 4 250 mg abiraterone capsules the second time I have to get up, which is usually somewhere between 4 and 6 AM.

I take mine first thing in the morning - before I do anything else. Then about an hour later (or a little more) I make myself some breakfast and have the prednisone.

Whenever I first wakeup I take the pills. Easy to wait 1 hour to eat. OK to have coffee right away if you need it.

Black coffee. Cream is fat and will exaggerate the strength of the Zytiga

I use fat free milk.

That is what I have been doing but some times I get up late and don't want to wait for an hour for breakfast since I am running late. I was thinking of taking then late at night instead. Any reason to not do this? It is certainly more than 2 hours after dinner.

My husband was told by tge doc to take them at night when he got up. He only missed one time in 18 mo. Took the prednisone with breakfast. Some take zytiga when they go to bed.

my MO reduced my prednisone to just once a day and it seems to work just fine. I forget the reason might have been the sleep issue.

Sure you could do that. I work part time at home now so I am never running late. 🤓

Funny I work at home too but I am always running late and I am a tough boss.

Ha. I don't start until noon or later. I go easy on me

Full dose upon awakening. Then no food for at least an hour (I waited at least 2 to be safe).

During breakfast, I would take 1/2 of my prednisone (5 mg).

During lunch, I would take the rest of my prednisone (an additional 5 mg).

Prednisone might cause insomnia. And it might upset your stomach. I don't sleep well so I didn't want to mess with the insomnia potential. In a pinch, I have taken it on an empty stomach and no GI issues for me.

For a while it increased my BP and changing my prednisone dose didn't seem to help. It also gave me fatigue. So my MO cut my dose and I have been taking 1/4 dose with a small meal. My BP has gone back to normal and I'm going to see what happens if I titrate up. If it works I'll talk to my MO.

Have taken 50gm zytiga and 5pm prednisone 1 hour before eat in morning works well for me last 12 months with PSA below 0.01 . Previously was on 100 gm zytiga when started the drug but after 3 months had liver toxicity so needed to reduce dosage exercise diet seem to be my main routines to follow for best results

I. Take it at early morning usually around 5am with a full glass of water . I then take my Prendisone at breakfast second dose with dinner.

I take in the morning at least 1 hour before breakfast. I have a cup of coffee, with cream & sugar 1o-15 minutes after taking it. It's been working fine for three years. 1 prednisone after breakfast and one after dinner. However, we've been having dinner later with the warmer weather and daylight savings, and I think prednisone that late may be causing insomnia.

I am an early riser. I get up and read papers in the morning so I have my alarms on my phone set to take the Zytiga at the same time every day and before I wake my wife to get up and get our day going. I am the breakfast chef so it is more than an hour before we actually eat. I use my iPhone for pill reminders, especially the night pills that I must take with food. Works well for me especially if we are eating out since I carry a set of pills for both of us in my pocket.

Been on arbi and pred for 3 plus years. Take pred in morning with breakfast then arbi at bedtime (I eat dinner early around 6 pm so two hour before arbi is easy.)

I have no pain and waiting for my next PetScan with PSMA.

My last one showed mets in the Iliac region and a 1.7 cm mass on the prostate removal bed. I have no pain and side effects are hot flushes and loss of muscle mass. Needless to say I am pED.

Good luck and prayers for all of us warriors here.
