Hi everyone , father is taking Abiraterone 1000 mg . I was just curious how everyone is consuming zytiga and what will be the effect of taking it in morning or evening time like bioabsorbtion of drug etc.
Doctor advised to take zytiga one hour before meal and two hour after meal , no specific time was mentioned . So father takes abiraterone 1000mg in morning 6.30am and sleeps again for 0.5 to 1 hrs , then after freshen up takes his breakfast around 8.30 am.
I want ur valuable inputs that if sleep after abiraterone consumption could negatively affect drug absorption ??
Also please post your Zytiga taking time and experience of changing the time for better . That will be helpful for all community

I take abiraterone in the morning as soon as I get up. I then set a 1 hour timer on my watch. At the end of the hour I eat breakfast and take my prednisone.
Same is followed by my father except he sleeps lightly for half to one hour then freshen up to take breakfast along with prednisolone. Does sleep anyway affects drug metabolism ? Any idea.
I take prednisone with breakfast, and Zityga 2 hours after finishing breakfast.
I looked into this and apparently there's a difference in absorption of anything depending if you lay on your left side or your right side. The layout of the stomach and where it meets the small intestine is asymmetric of course. There were some studies that indicated that lying on your right hand side is okay - but that lying on your left hand side it reduces the absorption of many things. I read this but it was not in context of Zytiga.
This reminds me of my own challenge because I sleep in and then I take the pills and then I can't eat breakfast and it's really late. It's an important question.
I take it as soon as I wake up early and then often lay back down and try to nap and then have breakfast at least an hour later. Been on it 4 years and have had good results.
I’m a morning person like your Dad. I take it around 5 and have breakfast between 7 and 8 which is when I take prednisone. PSA undetectable and so is testosterone. Cheers
I take mine between 3am and 5am depending what time I wake up during the morning. I too go back to sleep until between 6am and 8am when I drink my 5 fruit, protein supplemented smoothie. that's when I take my prednisone and pregabalin. I've decided to front load my daily essential nutrition requirements when I break my fast. I also do much of my hydration around my breakfast time. If it seems like modified fasting, it is. By the way, I'm 84yrs old and I've been stage 3 over a decade.
I take Zytiga in the middle of the night when I get up to pee. It works like a hot damn. The only time I missed is when I "pulled an all-nighter"! At my age pulling an all nighter is when I don't have to get up to pee. 😊
I take mine just before bed and then turn the bottle upside down so I will remember that I took them in the AM. One of the ADT side effects in memory loss. Worse yet is memory loss.
Yes he is taking at the same time since starting, just was curious that if his sleep after drug will affect drug absorption, but seems many are sleeping after drug so that is fine I guess.
Dr Sartor now at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN recommended taking 1000 mg w/ food. I quizzed about lowering the dose but he said a full dose outweigh any benefits of a lower dose in my case. My bloodwork is good
My husband took it when he woke up in the middle of the night to pee because that was the only time he had an empty stomach 😄
I am taking 250mg Abi with low fat yogurt with blueberries and 10mg prednisone for breakfast. I couldn’t take 1000mg with empty stomach in the morning because of schedule and I hated taking the 1000mg on an empty stomach at night. After researching clinical trials on 250mg with food vs 1000mg without, I decided that there is no appreciable difference in availability. Here are links to the studies:
At my location, only 500 mg Zytiga pills are available. I started with 1000mg on an empty stomach. Ater about a year, I reduced it to 500mg with low fat yoghurt. After another year, I further reduced it to one 500mg pill every alternate day. I have recently reduced it further to one 500mg pill every 3 days with low fat yoghurt. I am into my fifth year with Stage 4 Gleason 9.
I do a Zoladex injection every 3 months and a Xgeva injection every 6 months. Just keeping my fingers crossed. Bloodwork is fine so far with psa at less than0.01 . I also take 5mg prednisone daily.
I also take Abiraterone first thing in the morning. Initially I took the 4 -250 pills between lunch and evening meal for a couple years. It was an annoying “to do” and still eat well. I switched to morning, much easy to manage day and meals with same results for a couple years now.
I have been on ADT for 2 years. I take the Abiraterone right before I go to be around 10:30, ensuring at least 2 hours without eating anything and then take the Prednisone with breakfast.
I was on Abiraterone 2x500Mg and Prednisone 2x5mg. I found it easier to take my Abiraterone first thing upon waking up since it needs to be distanced from food. For the Prednisone, I was initially told to take 5mg in the morning and another 5mg in late afternoon. But that was making me jittery at night and I did not sleep well. I asked the doctor if I could take 10mg one shot in the morning instead. He said yes and so I did and that did help my sleep. Hope this helps you and your father.
I take Pred immediately after breakfast around 6:45. I have a reminder in my phone to take Abiraterone at 9:00 every morning. On weekends, I ususally have a different schedule. I just try to make sure I wait 2 hours after eating. So far, so good.
