I am 69 and my last PSA test was 1.8 came down from 4.9 4 months ago when I had a urinary retention episode after having missed 9 nights sleep with constipation problem. Have an enlarged prostate and have been catheterized for 7 months. Refused a Biopsy and could not stand MRI should I consider having the catheter removed ?

How do you know you have advanced prostate cancer? Were there metastases detected?

Hi thanks for your reply.. As far as I know I do not have prostate cancer. And my PSA test is very good for my age. Just an enlarged prostate.. Before 8th September I had some urinary retention problems but did need to be catheterized.. I am going to have the catheter removed and see how the Tamsulosin works for me..

Looks like a rainbow lorikeet. One of our delightful finds in Australia. My husband had a TURP done at 80. Had to wait about 3 weeks, self-cathing until surgery. Spent night in hospital, then released. Upon dismissal nurse handed him a bottle of stool softeners and encouraged him to use; he claimed one of the best pieces of medical advice he ever received. Had in-dwelling catheter for 5 days, then removed and voila, free peeing returned. No problems with urination returned; I pray you have same results.
