Turp Procedure
I have had a TURP and it was successful, a lot less getting up at night.
I had a TURP after radiation treatment and it took me 3 years to heal and still have issues. It was an emergency procedure after an ER doctor shoved a Foley through my urethra into my prostate and inflated it. Next ER doctor a urologist might not have done a TURP if he had full history. Do not do a TURP to irradiated tissue.
I suggest you look at REZUM which is a steam injection process. I'm considering it myself. It's alleged to be quick and painless, but they all say that.... Painless for them...
I had a TURP while the urologist had me trussed up doing my initial prostate biopsy. He needed to do a cystoscopy to see how far the cancer had spread into my bladder so he did a TURP while he was in there, economy of effort. For me it was all par for the course. Left my pride at the door so to speak. No issues really. If you need it, just get it done. DD 😎
I had a Turp procedure three months back and it made peeing so much easier. Previously I had to take Tamulosin to be able to pee. This said, I doubt that I could now get an erection and the ability to pee is not as good as it was. The erection business no longer bothers me at my age but I do think that the base of the penis was somehow detached from the rest of the penis as at times the penis feels slightly bloated (I'm no longer on Bicalutamide or Dexamethazone and I may have ejected the ADT injection the day it was inserted by bending and changing a Car wheel) and if that is owing to blood flow then something is not quite right as there is no "lift" happening.
I had green-laser treatment (a kind of "Turp" - ie - opening the urethral channel up) in May due to pee problems.. (taking 10 minutes to pee and then having to do it again 10 minutes later.) I can now pee freely - too freely. The treatment ended up causing incontinence - not awful - but enough to require 1 Depends a day. That cleared up after 11 weeks - for about 2 weeks until I had some steroid shots to my hips for hip/sacroiliac pain. The shots put me back at base 1. It's taken from then to now to regain some control. I generally can either sleep all night, or get up about 4 hours into my sleep - once a night. I'm taking physical therapy to strengthen the pelvic muscles and that seems to be helping. I'm also having some hematuria (peeing blood) issues caused by some scar tissue in the prostatic urethra (my primary treatment was 83Gy of IM/IGRT/ADT.) That's only happening if I manage to achieve an erection of sorts and then try to relieve it. It's really minor, but I'll be discussing it with my urologist (who did the green-laser, figure he's to blame) at our meeting this month.
Would I recommend it? Mixed on that. If you're really having peeing problems - possibly. If not - deal with it as long as you can, you can always have it done later. Tall_Allen said "it's not their urethra" - and he's right. I think some urologists are way too happy to do any revenue-enhancing procedure.
I’ve had 2 Turps. Find a guy who has done 1,000+. Seriously, there are guys with 3,000+. They are usually in their 50’s.My first was because my left Ureter was partially blocked by what they called a knuckle pushing into bladder from area of the prostate. That is how my original biopsy was obtained GL 4+4=8.
Then, my mistake, I lifted lawn furniture at week #2. Was supposed to wait unto week #6. Hematuria, then clot, then blockage, then could not stop hemmorage, so back for Turp#2. Mostly to cauterize and stop bleed.
I went to Mayo in Jacksonville, FL
