Dad getting very ill. Experience , hope ? Anyone ? Blood transfusions , platelet transfusions .

Hi my heroes! After 3 blood transfusions for anemia , hematologist dx parvo and early leukemia. Another dr said the levels are too low to say " leukemia." He will be getting 3 infusions this week of blood platelets. I don't understand. Since june cancer progressed, exhausting all meds he entered a stage 2 trial that i can give more info on when i get. He gets overwhelmed by questions. His fatigue went hand in hand with breathlessness, unable to walk bc he could not breathe, difficulty eating, lost over 30 pounds. ( luckily he was chubby) lol Heart and lung test came out perfect. This was prior to clinical trial. Hope, experience, advice, support. He's the best damn dad in the world and i want to be strong, but i have just been getting more sick bc i feel it's the beginning of the end, but he holds hope and a positive attitude that has kept him alive 5 plus years post stage 4 pca dx. Info..hope..experience..anything?

You definitely have a full plate. I'm not very savvy when it comes to medical advice, but fight cancer with humor. Right now is not the best time to joke with you or your dear Father. The only thing I can offer you is the word you said "hope"...It is what you must have to help your Father during this time in his life. He sounds like a terrific Father and right now he's entitled to all the kisses and hugs he receives from you and the rest of the family. You must remember that God is on your side... So I hope and pray that his coming new years are full of Hope and Joy,,,

Ty John . Best advice you could give . It turns out pre leukemia . Immunoglobulin transfusions . Bone marrow disease .. parvo infection plus cancer plus iron deficient anemia .. aplastic anemia. Body not making red blood cells . I'll make a family night if his favorite stand up . That's his belief too. Smile and laugh . Watch and listen to humor. Stay out of politics . Live . And yes he's an amazing man. Thank you for your reply. It means so much .

Hi Erica. My dad needed a lot of transfusions. I was like you and worried sick, couldn’t eat and couldn’t sleep. I was so focused on his hemoglobin and then also his platelets.

For his platelets, try papaya leaf extract. I read up on this and there does seem to be a lot of good research surrounding it.

I don’t know your dad’s situation and if his time is near but regardless of if it’s now or in a couple years, enjoy the moments with good memories.

It’s hard to let the anxiety go away (and it won’t really), but in the in-between moments, make memories, laugh, tell stories. My biggest piece of advice, record his voice and take pictures. I listen to my dads voice and stories everyday now and it brings me so much joy - like he is still in the room with me.

Erica, this is not an easy road for any of us to be on. Whether we are the ones battling the cancer or as in my case (my brother) and yours with your daddy to watch them go through the pain of cancer, it tears your heart out. I'm in prayer that the medical team figures out a worthwhile course of action and that there is success in that action. Know you and your father are being lifted up in prayer for answers, healing, comfort and peace. ❤️
