betnesol enema for stool blood 2 years after RT

My gastro recommended Betnesol enema to handle light stool blood two years after RT on pelvic and prostate.

However I find more red blood on toilet paper than before...after 3 days of enema...

Is it normal or I should stop it..

The treatment is 10 days then 3 times a week for 2 months...

I would appreciate any suggestion regarding

Thanks

Have you tried mesalamine? If it's just a little blood in the toilet paper, maybe ignoring it is best.

Hmm...Really don't know if this reply is relevant to your condition.

I was born with an anal fissure and for most of adult life I've experienced sporadic episodes of red rectal bleeding.

However, ever since HDR brachy (4/19) and 25 days of IMRT 7/19. No bleeding!

My RO suggested ( prior to IMRT) that I take phylum daily to avoid the potential of diarrhea.

I followed his advice and breezed through radiation . Still have no se's from radiation.

I still take 5 capsules daily and my bowel movements are soft and fast ( 30 seconds tops 😀)!

Again, not one episode of bleeding since!

Best

Try 3 prunes with breakfast every morning. All natural and can help

in reply toFightinghard

I find prune juice more convenient and palatable. Just a few ounces with breakfast and a few ounces with dinner. Don't need a whole lot.

It started after 2 years of RT.Actually I have stool bleeding on toilet paper..about once a week .

Not disturbing ..no pain...but gastro prescribed Betnesol which I find too agressive....

May be taking some supplements can be more efficient..

I will look into mesalamine as suggested by TA

Thanks for your interest

Did he look and see the cause?

Oh yes...He did rectoscopy with 4 inch scope...He found some irritation on Rectum...related to RT....But I find his protocol too aggressive....Some say...do not do anything ...T paper red blood spot will go away with time...so I have to decide ..;follow the protocol or let it heal itself... Some members may share their experience, as each person reacts in a different....manner... APC has such a heterogeneous behavior...

Buy pitted prunes at Costco (good price) and eat them during the day as if you were eating cookies. Drink prune juice.....(Try some castor oil here and there)....

Many thanks...Mediterranean diet does good job

May be RT damage will heal itself...if left alone....

Have a joyful year end and radiant coming year ...

I live with it. In my case, it was damage from RT. I did have a colonoscopy which did not show any other issues. The surgeon did try and cauterize the blood vessels where the damage was, but he was not completely successful.

It will be worse if you have a particularly large bowel movement that strains your anal canal.

Try not push it through, but let it flow out slowly (the stools that is.).

Once a week blood on the toilet paper is livable. So long as it is bright red you are good (if everything else checks out). If the blood is dark or black, you need to get it attended to.

It looks frightening, but we have bigger fish to fry as my oncologist tells me.

Just another story that makes me fearful of radiation. I won't mention the treatment option I chose instead, 5 1/2 years ago. I don't feel like being scolded. Hint: it is a 4 letter acronym.
