Chuck just had two kidney stones removed (one 17 mm and one 6 mm) and a stent inserted. Just got back the results and they are uric acid stones. Just read what can cause them on the dietary spectrum but wanted to find out if anyone else has had these on Xtandi, Eligard or Zometa? He’s had one before but not this size. We want to take preventive measures where we can, but it sounds like medication can also be a cause. He is also on Atenolol, Astorvastin and lisinopril.

17 mm is huge, wouldn't want to try to pass that one. High urea in blood acct kidneys not getting rid of it.. Same old story, you will hear you need to drink way more water. Just what we need when you have to get up 2-4 time a night to pee and pee all day. Best of luck. Hopefully drs can come up with easy fix through diet or easy on you meds. He should feel LOTS better with them out... If he saved that 17 mm ball, he can use it in a 16 ga. shotgun as a slug.
They ended up blowing it up. Just a lot of dust was left over according to the doctor! The stent is very uncomfortable and he isn’t feeling too good. His appt to remove the stent is on the 1st. He was always great on drinking a ton of water and like many of you, he is up frequently at night.
A multi vitamin and baby aspirin. He was taking calcium but was told to hold off until they could determine the type of stone. No other supplements. I was reading baby aspirin isn’t good for uric stones.

He has to consult with a nephrologist to determine what is the cause of the large elimination of uric acid leading to the production of very large kidney stones.

Omg 17mm! I’ve had stones four times but 9mm was my biggest. Had it blasted with lisotripsy. Mine are uric as well…no spinach, no rhubarb, try to stay away from nuts is what I recall. Good luck getting rid of that stent soon!
Yes, the stent has really been difficult. He normally walks each day and it really acts up when he does.
I too suffer from stones. My doctor just put me on lots of lemon juice in my water. Apparently, lemon juice helps to change the ph of urine which can reduce stones. I will have the removal operation and stent probably in January. Not looking forward to it.
We normally put lemon in our water but now I make sure he has a couple of slices. How much lemon do you use?
I have had many kidney stones over the past two decades. They all were small enough to pass without surgery. I just passed a few last week, the largest one was about three mm. I have no doubt the dause was diet, which boiled down to a big serving of green onion/ cream cheese dip with celery. I am taking Prolia shots twice a year for calcium loss from bones, osteoporosis, due to ten y ears of Lupron for stage 4 mpc. The celery with cream cheese/ vinegar/sugar/black pepper dip was so tasty I ate it for a meal. I was thinking protein and low calorie vegetables. Bad idea.
My first stone came over 20 years ago. It was about 5mm and was so painful I had to go home from work. I cut the pain with ice and tylenol, and I cut the nausea with hyperventilation, but I remember having the most helpless feeling for several hours. I could not get comfortable, tossing and turning, standing and lying down. Extreme pain in my right abdomen. By the time I got to a doctor it had passed to the bladder. Previous stones were caused by Tums big calcium intake due to midnight heartburn. I learned that when I took three tums one night, then had a tripple stone within a few days. Urologist taught me to drink a lot of water. The stones seem to concentrate in the kidneys from calcium intake plus dehydration. I still take famitodine or Pepcid for heartburn, daily.
The latest one, last week, was similar. I learned over time to use massage to help it pass to the bladder. By using my hand I kept pushing it along, pressing it towards the bladder, using my fingers to vibrate my belly. I could sense it moving, or rather, having moved, from right to left. It passed within a few hours but I felt sick for a day. I saved the bigger two but dropped one tiny on the bath mat, forever lost.
I read that they can break up large stones, too big to pass through the uterer, by using sound waves in a bathtub. Having broken up they then pass without surgery.
I just had a 1.2cm treated... Calculus was picked up on scans done over the last year with my persistent PSA and eventual Stage IV... But couldn't do anything about it until completing chemo which definitely complicated things...
But first was with Lithotripsy, which only reduced the stone from 1.2cm to .8cm, which worked great making it small enough to then migrate and get stuck in my Ureter. Pain was mitigated with the Lithotripsy though ... that was weird. But was happy to stop taking Oxy for pain relief.
Testing earlier (urine test) indicated Oxalate (elevated) for me, confirmed when I collected passing fragments, ie, Oxalate Calcium Stones. Opted for surgery in round 2 to just go in and get the thing out as opposed to multiple Lithotripsies. Was successful but what a trip, tube out of the kidney for a week, and that incision failed to heal for another week+ so constant leakage, etc. 
Anyways, I had the same thoughts about it all, but a lot of my diet would have led to the high oxalates, so now there's an adjustment. More than lending to any medication I think. Same will go for you in regard to uric acid! Check the diet and be aware, adjust as necessary, because stones are a B****! Lol... I certainly want to avoid them if possible going forward. No family history with stones either, so it's all mine to deal with hahaha.
Anyways, you're doing the right thing, just do some diligence and explore how to minimize possible recurrence going forward!

Cooolone, sounds like you have had it rough. I can’t imagine having them on a frequent basis. That kind of pain definitely makes you rethink what to eat! We are revising our diet plan to follow the Dash diet, making adjustments where necessary to avoid the foods on the list.

Had them right and left....calcium ones (smooth) Thank God.. Uric acid ones jaggered and not easy to pass. Either one of them hurt like a bitch. They say it's like child birth but no relief... With the calcium ones.... jump up and down or go horseback riding in hopes of dislodging it. Strain your urine to catch the stone for analysis. Suck up the nearest lake since the water passing through your system may also help pass the stone. Keep away from acetic drinks , coffee, colas and etc. Try moving you body to find a comfortable (if you can) position, and if you can stay that way until you get relief or move to see a urologist. The Uric acid stones are blown up with TNT while you're in a tub full of beer.
