My husband keeps getting kidney stones every sense

He had his Selvedge Prostrate removal in Aug. He has wore a catheter on and off since then. Went into renal failure last week and was in the hospital , when they took out his surgically placed catheter it had a crystal buildup. Was released sat and now back in ER with pain in kidneys. He has a kidney infection with stones they believe. Just did a CT. He has had at least 14 cat scans this year.

They say he still has cancer in his bladder neck.

in reply toKimmilemo

The hope is to clear his urology of tumors. Took me a year for adt and Rt to get cleared. I hope that his is quicker gone than mine.. Are you home yet?

This is a terrible condition to be in. I know, I too ,had kidney failure with APC.. These urological complications Are brutal and demoralizing( as you know) . I had tubes out of my kidneys ,a foley and or internal stents.. for over a year while adt and RT shrank the tumors.. Hope you’re not headed that way.. Pure hell.. the entire time. I pray for him to get out of this painful saga. May God show mercy on him soon.

The hardest part is most don’t know what to do. Maybe he needs stents . They haven’t even started the ADT yet. They ended up not seeing any stones , gave him meds for the kidney pain and sent us home.

Did you have cancer around the bladder neck too?

in reply toKimmilemo

Yes and blocking urethra.

His oncologist doesn’t want to do Lupron yet , he says this is caused from the surgery and radiation not the cancer.

I'm so sorry to hear this. 14 CT scans in a year is a lot of radiation - maybe he can switch to MRI?

What is his water intake? Dehydration and kidney stones go hand in hand. Have you discussed this with his Urologist? Crystallized urine usually happens from concentrated urine. Foley or no Foley, one has to keep the waterworks functioning.

Ain’t that the truth! The uro that put tubes in my back told me “ We’re just Plummers. “...Everything in life revolves around water... even us.

j-o-h-n <===<<< Many kidney stones (right and left side) - painful as all hell. Have had stents on both sides. Water, water and more water. I used to drink so much water that sometimes I had the urge to suck a fish. Uric acid stones hard to pass, calcium one's easier. If possible have him jump up and down which sometimes helps in dislodging the stone(s).

Why did they give you stents?

j-o-h-n profile image
j-o-h-n in reply toKimmilemo

Left kidney stent was needed because urinary tract was damaged due to Radiation (or from passing kidney stones) of prostate bed (after my RPD). Right one was to help passage of kidney stones. None in me now. But my urologist said stents can now last up to one year instead of the current 3 months.

To j-o-h-n ; We want everybody to be gents (Without) stents... I’m thankful that we escaped that scenario. Wishing this gentleman to get out quickly also...I think I’m now working on growing a ”Man -Gina” Growing sensitive tities , balls deleted but I m developing a indentation in the center of the small fat covering my pubic bone. Now if I sprout a clit , that may provide some fun. I’m turnin into a chick with a dick...still human too, can’t beat em join em, I’m just a passenger on this AdT trip. I am paying for my sins of being an overconfident egotistical male macho mule.. APC payback baby.. Lacking .....Testasterone... I’m a six foot three 200 pound fem -bot...Oh well!

My kidneys have gone down to 14% since I had Lupron injections for 6 1/2 years. I changed my diet (no gravy etc.), but I want you to know about a hormone in your kidneys called erythropoietin (EPO) that tells your bone marrow to release Red Blood Cells. I had low RBC's and they gave me iron I.V.s and then shots of Procrit (artificial erythropoietin (EPO). Now my RBC is 11.7 and I have energy again. Also, insulin is inactivated by the kidneys, so when the kidney is not working the insulin can build up in your system and you can have low sugar levels. I am diabetic and I had to cut my insulin injections in half! I had a fistula put on my wrist so I can have dialysis in the future, it takes a couple of months to heal properly. I saw a vascular surgeon for that, and it was no big deal, but they put me to sleep for the surgery. Have a wonderful season and just keep truckin'.

Here is how I believe I will need dialysis. A normal creatinin level is 0.2 to 0.6 and mine has continued to go up since I started Lupron. When it was 2.3 my oncologist sent me to a kidney doctor. It kept going up until this past August it was 5.1. When it gets to 6 or so your kidneys are not able to keep up with the "junk" in your blood stream, like urea and hundreds of other chemicals that go out in your urine. In September my creatinin went down to 3.5 and now is 3.7 (It goes up and down a few points). My nephrologist thinks that about February I will need dialysis. It is possible my creatinin goes down, so I keep praying. Well they told me I had 5 years to live in 2011 and get my affairs together, but that was not true either. I no longer have prostate cancer!

I pray with you....

I too had issues with kidney stones as well as Prostate cancer. Research IP 6 with Inositol. It’s effective for both stones and PCa. No side effects-based on physic acid. Lots of info online and Google scholar.
